  1. I still give that reward to Manny Ramirez
  2. Mike Timlin has earned the right to say what is on his mind. He is correct that we are not hitting well. He might have gone too far saying the team is pitching well because we give up 10+ hits a game. Last night Jeremy Bonderman pitched a great game but that never stopped us before. This team doesn't score like it used to but in return plays better defense. Doesn't matter how good your defense is when the pitching allows 10 hits everytime the team takes the field. One thing Terry Francona must stop doing....leaving relievers in for more than an inning. They can't do it....so stop doing it. It has not been successful and the team is loaded with players in the bullpen. Use them for an innings and turn the pitchers over.
  3. Showenweis goes to the Reds
  4. Sometimes I wonder about that. Its crazy to discuss the secrets within baseball because none of us know. It is quite possible we could see Josh Beckett turn it on another notch walking into September. The Red Sox would have Tim Wakefield back and have a chance to make a strong run. Its the same thing with rookies. The time a team would love to bring up the top prospects is within the last couple months. You all saw the early success of Lester, Delcarmen, and Hansen and now they are struggling. Thats because they needed to come up early. I'm sure if the front office had it there way thats what would have happened. Unfortunatly they did a very poor job evaluating the players to be on the pitcing staff at the beginning of the season. I'm not a fan of a player saving himself for the final run. I like players who play hard everyday knowing that despite its a long season....games count.
  5. Neither Hawkins or Schoenweis will make a difference. The team just needs to play better. They have the talent but they aren't showing up to play. I'm starting to look toward the coaches because this team is not motivated.
  6. He wants to be the Atlanta Braves of the AL with the ability to bring in top free agents. I'm not opposed to the plan but they need to evaluate players better. Edgar Renteria Coco Crisp Josh Beckett Rudy Seanez Matt Clement David Wells Jason Johnson Julian Tavarez JT Snow Javier Lopez Keith Foulke (although I will take it for his 04 performance alone) .....these players have not met expectations. I don't mind if you build a strong farm system but when signing players.....lets make some good signings. With the success Orlando Cabrera had in Boston he should never have been let go for Edgar Renteria. Despite the Red Sox not having a lefty in the bullpen David Riske was not the person to give up. I like Willy Mo Pena but the Red Sox should have worked harder to make a deal based around Matt Clement. Julian Tavarez is a headcase and an ass hole who sucked against AL teams before. Rudy Seanez already had two attempts in Boston prior to this one. There are too many bad moves lately. Make better use of the teams resources and scout better. If its not the players then figure out whats wrong with the coaching staff and why they can't get more out of these guys.
  7. Even if nobody was leaving the Yankees they would have money to spend.
  8. I would love to see him develop a 90 mph splitter. It would be perfect to sit between his curve and fastball.
  9. Josh Beckett has no excuses. On a great defensive team that scores plenty of runs. He has a 97 mph fastball with a tight curve and decent change (the changeup could be better). The Red Sox just signed him to a decent contract so he has security. There are no apparent injuries. .....just pitch better
  10. correct but I watched the replay and after he looked back he turned on another gear....RUN
  11. Dump Tavarez or Seanez....or.....BOTH!!! yay
  12. Here comes my favorite Red Sox player....lets do it Lowell
  13. Alright I've seen enough (0.2 innings).....Breslow should be in the bullpen
  14. I hate this pitching staff.....I hope to see many new faces next season
  15. Just got home and flipped on the TV.....I'm sure its been mentioned but I want to join in.....Josh Beckett sucks
  16. Not many teams have the luxury of affording Eric Gagne based on his injury history. If healthy you won't find a better closer in the game. Every pitch he throws can be thrown for strikes with nasty movement and excellent velocity. It's worth the gamble if you ask me. As far as the debate...move Papelbon to the rotation next season and see what happens. A player has a better chance of moving from starter to the bullpen where it doesn't work the other way. I don't have an answer with who should be our closer. The Red Sox could look for a trade, a free agent signing, or take a gamble with Delcarmen or Hansen.
  17. Those aren't bad numbers but its not "all-star" caliber numbers. I was hoping Coco Crisp could be a 20-20 guy. I didn't get to see him a lot in Cleveland but I felt his power was increasing and he was turning into a base-stealing threat. His low total of RBI is also a cause for concern. His defense has been decent but his arm is....interesting. Its a better arm than Johnny Damon's but that doesn't say much. He is deffinitly not as bad as some have made him out to be and still young.
  18. I thought the same thing when Carlos Beltran hit the free agent market. I'm sure anything is possible and I wouldn't expect the Red Sox to become a team that never spends money. Perhaps they would feel Vernon Wells is the type of player to open the wallet. I would hope so because its hard to find a solid defensive CF with power like Wells.
