  1. I don't think anyone can count the Yankees out but I don't like your chances. Leaving Yankee stadium 1-2 was actually a plus for the Red Sox. The ace is back and the Yankees need to pull off a real streak. The best way to have done that was to sweep the Sox. If we won that series this thing is over. There is still hope left but you have to go on the road a lot, your pitching staff simply can't get a long win streak going, the injury to Sheffield is a set back, the team is going to start pressing and get frustrated the second something goes wrong.......its just going to be ugly. if you wanna talk about the Sox chances....I like our chances against the Angels obviously. I like our chances against the White Sox. I'm not thrilled to play the Guardians cause they are a young crowd with nothing to lose since they aren't supposed to be there in the first place. This year I'm not thrilled about our chances against the Cardinals cause they have Carpenter and Mulder. Although we would have home field advantage.
  2. This is true....but I'm used to looking up then looking behind....I think it would only be right for the Red Sox to play like they are 3 1/2 games out then 3 1/2 games up.
  3. Here is something else I noticed...the White Sox have a 3 1/2 game lead on us...but only have 7 home games left......we can take this thing its in our reach
  4. I'm sorry to the Yanks but just look at the remaining schedule.....you can call it cocky or whatever.....but the fact remains the final 7 games for the Red Sox are at home and the final 7 games for the Yankees are on the road. If we only win half the series we have left then the Yankees need to take all of the series from here on out. I just don't see that happening and on top of that....the Guardians have to play Kansas City a bunch of times and they only have a total of 7 games on the road to finish the year......... ......the Red Sox should be looking in at the Chicago White Sox because they have 13 road games and 7 home games left......we can catch them
  5. Maybe the Yanks won this series (which I predicted would happen) but they are running out of time and chances are we win 2 of 3 last weekend of the year. Red Sox Schedule: 11 Home Games (48-22) 9 Away Games (35-37) Yankees Schedule: 7 Home Game (47-27) 13 Away Games (33-35) Guardians Schedule: 12 Home Games (37-32) 7 Away Games (45-29) worst case scenario....if we win each home series and lost each away series we finish: 11-9....which means the Yanks would have to win every series they have left which 4 are on the road and only 2 at home to go 14-6. Inidans have a better record on the road and 4 of those remaining 7 away games are @Kansas City
  6. I couldn't imagine Torre would go with Embree late in the game against Ortiz.....the only possible reason I can see him making a move like that...is because all the rest of the pitchers have failed against Papi. Forget it they won't get him out in this series nor any other series....this is what David Ortiz lives for. If they are smart they would just pitch around him and take there chances with Manny who has fallen asleep.....although he could wake up any game now.
  7. I only got to see the game they had on NESN where he didn't last too long so I'm not sure. I would expect him to be on Pawtucket next season and be there ace at some point. I think he is only 21 years old so there is some time to work with him...not to mention we have a full rotation for next season. In the end down the road I could see Lester and Papelbon leading our rotation once Schilling and Wells move on to retirement. I think those two guys will be solid then with Sanchez, Buccholz, Pauley and Bowden someone is bound to work out for another rotation spot down the road. Its almost like playing the odds.....1/5 is bound to come through....especially with good scouting
  8. No question having an ace would be big at the moment...however...with our lead in the division basically what we need is our 5 starters to keep us in every game. Don't get blown out but give us a chance to score 4-7 runs and get the victory. ...playoffs is a different story...then we need guys to step up and hopefully after this month we will know who it is.
  9. I just really wanted to make a thread for him cause he is my favorite player.... This guy has been the only consistant part of the Red Sox pitching staff for the last many years. Other pitchers have come and gone. Always a middle-back end starter I think he is just as valuable in the club house as Jason Varitek. It seems like he always has double digit wins and will be a reliever if asked. How many other teams have a consistant bottom rotation starter who always has that many wins? This guy is the ultimate Boston Red Sox and I really hope he retires with us. I got October goose bumps watching the game last night when he struck out Adam Kennedy leading to the inevitable Big Papi HR.
  10. The Red Sox will always be players in the free agent market and could aquire a big bat. If you had to choose on a focus for the farm system I would focus on pitching and deal with power in free agency. It also takes longer for power hitters to develop and help the team where pitchers can contribute much faster.
  11. Leiter shut down the sox once already....lefty against the sox is better.....is it really that horrible of a decision???
  12. Thanks but this was really just a Hansen question about him being shut down "indefinitely". Had to voice an opinion about a previous post on a rotation including Hansen.....don't worry its a talk forum....most have more than one topic....it will be ok
  13. is Derek Lee a free agent next year??? if he is then go get him to replace Manny
  14. soxprospects.com says Hansen will throw on tuesday?? Is this thing updated or is that old news and he is still shut down for the rest of the season?? As far as the rotation and stuff...in a dream world everyone would work out and look like: 1.AJ Burnett 2.Matt Clement 3.Jon Papelbon 4.Jon Lester 5.Anibal Sanchez SU:Cla Meredith SU:Manny Delcarmen SU:Abe Alvarez CL:Craig Hansen ........but I highly doubt it. As of right now our top pitching prospect is Papelbon and he needs another pitch.
  15. Seattle would be a real nice fit for Warrick. Another team who should be interested but I haven't heard anything is the Houston Texans. Clearly Andre Johnson is awesome but who the hell is the other reciever there? Bradford stinks and so does Gaffney....Mathis is fast but very unproven. Hello Houston anyone home??
  16. yeah...his swing is still there....sllloooowwww. He has to have the slowest swing in baseball and the worst eye-hand coordination
  17. and we all know how awesome the Sox are when they face pitchers they haven't seen...especially rookies
  18. We might be ok without him and I would expect him to make the team in spring training. Deffinitly the 40 man roster and will probably end up in the bullpen from the start. If Foulke can't get it back we have our closer for the next many many years...I would just assume not take a chance to wreck his arm
  19. Unfortunatly I couldn't see the game put looking at the game stats I think it may be a turning point for him. It takes some time and he started getting outs once he settled in. Deffinitly a good sign and thats really all you want to see. Steady improvement is the key to Schilling's success. One thing I can't figure out is the control must be there since he didn't walk anyone...but is still leaving the ball over the plate at times......just a little more late movement and I think he has it back.
  20. So a nice start for Bellhorn. I had to watch the game and it was quite amusing. I actually feel for him though as opposed to Embree who I love seeing go in and get rocked. Bellhorn has simply lost it. My gutt feeling says the Yanks won't stick with him too long. He looks pretty silly with his clean shaved look....just not the same Bellhorn. His swing is still there though.
  21. He is a righty correct?? I think I'm just getting really really really really frustrated with the guys in the bullpen. Just when Abe Alvarez does well he stinks the next day. Papelbon looks good in the rotation then struggles in the bullpen. Keith Foulke, Matt Mantei, Alan Embree, Mike Remlinger, Cla Meredith, Curt Schilling, Blaine Neal, John Halama....FIND A FREAKIN SOLUTION ALREADY
  22. We lost Jay Payton but we got Chad Bradford who has done very well for us. It's not as if it was a total loss. Our offense has still been one of the best in the league not to mention we have other players who are capable on the bench (I'm not saying Kevin Millar). As far as Bellhorn I'm happy he gets a shot somewhere but I don't understand why the Yanks would go for him. What happens when he goes 0-3 with 2Ks. The only thing worse than a struggling player in Boston is one in New York. As if his confidence wasn't at an all time low he needs to go to Yankee stadium where they are in a playoff race. I think that sucks I would have rather seen him go to the NL and join one of the teams in the NL East. But fine...facing Embree and Bellhorn are not among my top fears...especially when our team has been upgraded both places.
  23. I don't see this solving any problems
  24. I think he would help but my god we need people to step up.....this is just a huge list of potential pitchers and few of them have a true assignment: Schilling, Wells, Clement, Wakefield, Arroyo, Miller, Foulke, Timlin, Hansen, Papelbon, Perisho, Myers, Bradford, Gonzalez, Alvarez, DiNardo, and lets throw in Trachsel. Steve Trachsel would be a starter since he has started basically his whole career. Which means more guys are up in the air to determine there true position. Once September hits they need to come up with a rotation, get everyone healthy, and settle in on what players need to do from here out.
  25. I think its more than just guessing....there is something about his mechanics which are off and that also throws people who look at stats off. You can see he gave up a run but technically he is just trying to get comfortable. Hopefully he is now comfortable and can zero in on hitters more and be aggressive trying to make certain pitches. Its gotta come along quickly though cause time is running down. As far as the Sox bringing on rookies slowly. That is true....but if he performs the way some think he might then he may not give the Sox a choice. My thoughts are the rookie needs to show he can do it and not give the team an excuse to stray from the obvious answer. It wasn't long ago that he was a closer.
