  1. August 28, 2003: 4.5 game lead August 28, 2004: 5.5 game lead The Yankees were a strong team in both of those years, but so were the Red Sox. This is not 2006. The Yankees have been incredible since the All Star break. Including this past week, they have only lost two series. But, at some point, they're going to slump a bit. In my opinion, this division is going to be, at the very least, whittled down to two or three games at some point. I hope I'm wrong, but that's what I see happening. I still pay attention to the Red Sox every single day, hoping that they're going to lose as if the division race was tied. All of you here know that my reason for rooting against the Red Sox has nothing to do with some hatred towards them, but, instead, it's in the hope that they don't make a run at the Yankees.
  2. How does this statement apply to today's game? Looks like this will be the Yankees first home series loss since the Nationals series (I think). Like I said earlier in the thread, I think we're going to be looking at a division race very similar to 2003 and 2004. All the Yankee fans saying that the division is rapped up are being pretty ridiculous.
  3. I would be very impressed with the voters if they gave Grienke the Cy Young. I don't expect them to. If the 2005 AL Cy Young voting is any kind of indicator, he probably won't win it.
  4. Rod Barajas ties it with a solo HR with one out in the ninth.
  5. Another Phillies BS, this one by Madson. But Ryan Howard just hit a three run homer in the top of the 10th.
  6. I really don't see the point of going to Bruney anymore.
  7. Ugh, Posada out after getting hit on the hand with a foul tip.
  8. I really wish Girardi would just go to Hughes, even with the seven run lead. He barely pitches.
  9. Thinking the exact same thing.
  10. Now does Joe bunt with Melky...?
  11. Unbelievable. Pettitte has walked Andrus twice, and he didn't even go to 3-2 either time.
  12. And the Robinson Cano mistakes keep piling up.
  13. The Yankee starting pitchers, as a whole, are just way too wild.
  14. Well, I agree with you, but making up excuses for why the Yankees beat the Red Sox does not prove your point. However, like I said, I think the Red Sox and Yankees are very close. This is not 2006. Go back and take a look at the pennant races from 2003 and 2004. I expect this one to be very similar.
  15. It's pretty ridiculous to throw these things out there, though, because it goes both ways. -The Yankees played their first five games without A-Rod. -One of the Red Sox wins happened because Mariano Rivera blew his only save of the season. -Two of the losses were started by Wang and Hughes, who would not be starting in the postseason. I don't think any of the stuff that I just said it particularly relevant, but neither is the stuff that you said either. These arguments always work both ways.
  16. The postseason is such a crap shoot. Anyone can beat anyone. Since the implementation of the wild card, think about the all unpredictable outcomes we've witnessed. If the Yankees make the playoffs, sure, I would rather face teams like the Tigers or the Rangers. But, in 1997, I wanted to face the Guardians. I wasn't worried about the Angels in 2002. I thought the Tigers would roll over for the Yankees in 2006. I preferred the Guardians over the Angels in 2007. I'm not going to take anything for granted, including a playoff spot. Until the Yankees have clinched a postseason spot, I really don't even want to worry about potential playoff match ups. Yankee fans here have to stop talking like their team is a lock to make the postseason, because, in reality, they're not. Their rotation simply is not that good. I suggest that all Yankee fans do themselves a favor and worry about the next 37 games, instead of games after that that the Yankees may or may not take part in.
  17. Yeah man! Who really cares about making their team making the playoffs anyway...
  18. If the roles were reversed, I would have absolutely no problem pulling for the Red Sox.
  19. Grand slam by Rod Barajas puts TOR up 4-3.
  20. His career ERA+ is 100, so, by definition, he's been average. But like you said Spudboy, coupled with the hype, he's been a disappointment.
  21. It's so strange with him. Overall, especially with the Yankees, you would probably consider him a bust. However, he was the ace on a World Series Championship team.
  22. I don't think the Red Sox fans are sweating it. It was Jacko who made the thread.
