  1. The Red Sox top two is better than the Angels top two. With the new ALDS format (starting in 2007) the Red Sox will probably only go with three starters in the first round. Whether it's Wakefield or Buchholz starting the other game, I'll take the Red Sox starting pitching.
  2. Haha, considering what site I'm on, I would tend to agree lol. Like a700 said, I really don't see Texas posing a serious threat. If the Red Sox don't make a run at the Yankees, I see the Rays as the only team that has a shot to compete. For one they're better than the Rangers, and they also have six games left with the Red Sox. They really need to sweep this weekend. Not sure if you remember, but there was a series in late August last year when the Red Sox came into Yankee Stadium holding a five game edge in the wild card. Pretty similar to this series coming up.
  3. Wow. 18-10. What a top of the ninth for TOR. Yankees magic number for the playoffs will go down to 22 if TOR gets three more outs.
  4. 13-10. Jays squashing hopes of a comeback.
  5. Nice job by Downs.
  6. Texas gets one more. End of six.
  7. Two on, one out for Texas, with the top of the order coming up.
  8. The Yankees so badly want to feel comfortable using Brian Bruney is close games, but there has to be a point when they realize that is just not an option. I'm not saying tonight is close, but the guy has gotten so many opportunities. He has a couple good outings every so often, but he is incredibly inconsistent with suspect control (at best).
  9. Really doesn't surprise me. I don't think there will be much of an AL wild card race down the stretch, at not involving Texas. If the Rays sweep this weekend then it's a different story.
  10. Come on, you have to feel bad for him. No one wants to be the next Don Hoak.
  11. When is Joe Girardi going to realize that, in general, the bunt is a bad play?
  12. Minnesota takes a 4-3 lead in the 8th, and still threatening. EDIT: Squeeze play is successful. 5-3.
  13. Looking more and more like the Yankees and the Red Sox will both be in the playoffs.
  14. New Joba rules, so they can keep him on normal rest. According to what I've heard, by the end of the season, he'll be throwing a normal amount of innings per start in an attempt to get him ready for the playoffs (if the Yankees make it). Today was the only start where there was concern about the bullpen, because, when Joba makes his next start, the rosters will be expanding.
  15. Hughes should have been in one batter earlier.
  16. It says on the ballot that it doesn't have to go to a guy on a playoff team. In the past, players (Pedro Martinez and Hideki Matsui, for example) have lost awards because voters decided to re-define the rules.
  17. Jose Contreras really can't field his position.
  18. Yup, I thought of Pudge also. The only difference is that Pudge's main competition was a pitcher, and some writers simply left Pedro off their ballots.
