  1. If the Yankees success does not have a major impact on their financial advantage, then why aren't the Mets operating at this same advantage?
  2. It's not true capitalism, but it also isn't remotely like football or basketball. All I'm saying is that baseball is a business, and the Yankees are simply taking advantage of the capitalist aspect of it.
  3. I can't quantify, but it's a logical assumption. If you can't see that, then you have the blinders on. Let me ask you this. If they hadn't had the previous success, do you really think they would have been able to start up the YES Network?
  4. It all depends how you look at it. When you compare it to other American sports, it's unfair. However, when you look at it in the context of capitalism (lets not forget, baseball is a business), it's completely acceptable.
  5. Neither of us know exactly how much of a factor winning had, but, the Yankees were extremely unpopular during the Stump Merrill years. No one has ever had the kind of success that the Yankees had, and, quite possibly, no one ever will. They built this financial empire on the strength of their former dynasty.
  6. What also seems ridiculous to me is how the sentiment has now changed. In the past, whenever the Yankees would get eliminated or struggle, there were tons of articles written about how you cannot buy championships. About how there is more to winning than just writing checks. The articles used to be about how you have to build from within, in order to build team chemistry, and how bringing in a bunch of mercenaries doesn't work. Now the articles center around how the Yankees bought their championship. The media has really had it both ways.
  7. I also love the constant use of the word "bought" when it comes to free agents. Technically, every time a team signs a free agent, they buy him. It is just used because it carries a negative connotation.
  8. The best part about it is that it infers that the Yankees are, in some way, breaking a rule.
  9. All of this stuff is fair, and, to be perfectly honest, it's not necessarily debatable. I do love, however, that people continue to ignore that the Yankees, to some degree, created this enormous advantage.
  10. That wasn't what I was referring to. One of the main reasons they've been able to create this financial machine (which includes establishing the YES Network), is because of the unbelievable amount of success they had from 1996-2001. No one had come remotely close to reaching such heights since the introduction of free agency, and, quite likely, no one will come close again.
  11. So you're not going to give the Yankees any credit for helping to create this advantage, by doing something that had never been done before, and, quite possibly, will never be done again? There is a reason why the Mets do not operate with the same advantage as the Yankees, even though they're in the same market.
  12. Also, TK, while I agree with your premise that the Yankees operate from an enormous advantage, do you also agree that the Yankees have helped to create that advantage? EDIT: By accomplishing something that had never been done.
  13. Well, that's not necessarily true. For the most part, you're right, but if it wasn't a deterrent, Carlos Beltran would be playing center field for the Yankees right now. However, it is designed to help make other teams competitive. You can't blame the Yankees if those teams pocket the money.
  14. I've already admitted. However, the Yankees deserve credit for helping to create that advantage. Part of it comes naturally to them, but they deserve some credit for all the revenue they bring in. Also, one thing that hasn't been mentioned is the fact that the Yankees pay for their spending, in the form of a luxury tax.
  15. TK, what do you suggest?
  16. That's fair. My only point is that it seems like it's being inferred that Alabama is receiving a great deal of help from the officials. Granted, they greatly benefitted from botched INT call. I'm not denying that. All I'm saying is that these things tend to go both ways. The officiating in the SEC has been horrible this year, but I don't think Alabama is always the team that's being helped.
  17. Too bad about Hairston and Matsui from a Yankees' stand point.
  18. Take this at what it's worth... http://yankees.lhblogs.com/2009/11/09/mariners-gm-felix-is-our-property/
  19. 26-6, I'm not saying that the ticket prices are fair. All I'm saying is that this is the society we live in, and that's just how things are going to be. Because of this, there is no use complaining. As long as the Yankees continue to field winning teams, their ticket prices will continue to be quite high. Which do you prefer: Yankee success or lower ticket prices?
  20. In all fairness, how about the intentional grounding call in the end zone that went against Alabama? McElroy was trying to throw to a receiver that within about five yards of the football, and the hit on him changed the directory of the pass. That call was definitely a questionable one. Alabama got a huge break, but I don't think the officiating on Saturday was as one sided as you're making it out to be.
  21. Who cares? A-Rod is gay. Gay-Rod! And I don't get the signature?
  22. And I heard, from a very reliable source, that A-Rod and Jeter had sex in an empty office in City Hall following the parade. What a f***ing faggot that guy is! HOMO!!!!! GAY-ROD!!!!!! Get it? His nickname is A-Rod, and the letter A is in the word gay. Also, if you sound the letter out, it's "aye", which rhymes with "gay", so I can replace the "A" in A-Rod, with the word "gay", to create gay-rod. GAY-ROD!!!!!! He is just so darn gay... And, I heard an unconfirmed report that, about halfway through their GAY sex session, the entire Yankee team joined in to create one, huge, GAY orgy. It was just so GAY. GAY. GAY. GAY. GAY! GAY-ROD!!!!!!!
  23. Boy, I'm disappointed in you guys. No complaints that Teixeira enjoyed Jay-Z's song. No complaints that Jeter was wearing sun glasses. No complaints the Girardi mentioned next year. No complaints that Sabathia was smiling. No complaints that Mitre was on a float. No complaints the Cervelli had a suit on. No complaints that Posada had a jacket on. No complaints that Rivera was with his family. No complaints that Burnett waved to the crowd. No complaints that Matsui was on the first float. No complaints that Swisher was the first player called to get his key. I guess you guys are just getting lazy these days.
  24. Never said they didn't, but, it's important to keep in mind that the Yankees do nice things for the community all the time. HOPE Week this year was fantastic.
