  1. Joba's inconsistent start to the year, for what it's worth, is the main reason I take issue with Girardi's decision in the eighth inning. Admittedly, if Joba was consistently pitching well, that would transcend any potential platoon advantages, and you go with your best guy. However, with Joba falling well short of that at the moment, I think you have to match-up.
  2. Well, disappointing game. It's amazing, outside of two games last September, how infrequently the Yankees pull out close games in Anaheim. AJ, which seems to be the norm away from NYS, wasn't sharp, but he did hang in there and gave them a chance to win. I'd say the most notable part of this game would be Joba, who continues to be very up and down this year. Hopefully, as he readjusts to the routine of being a reliever, he finds more consistency (especially with his velocity), but it remains a huge question mark.
  3. Anyway, I know there was a lot of discussion here about the Teixeira play at home plate. They just interviewed him on the YES post game show, and while there's no way to know if he's telling the truth, I'm inclined to believe that he just made a bit of a mistake, and wasn't trying hurt anyone (or anything of the sort). He talked about speaking to the catcher before the game, and wishing him good luck, and he also talked about calling the clubhouse to find out if he was back from the hospital yet (or something like that).
  4. Actually, it's not just the spectacular play. Cano has really good range, and an exceptionally strong arm for a second baseman, but his struggles with the routine play have been improving in recent years (from my observations). Three years ago, when he was making the spectacular plays, but struggling with the routine plays, I would have agreed with your assessment.
  5. Nice to see Girardi continuing to hurt this team. They won despite him last year, and are in a position where they'll have to do the same thing this year.
  6. Disappointing that Joe didn't go to Marte to face Matsui and Morales, and then went to Joba. Would have been the correct move in my opinion.
  7. There were a lot of analysts who said that they've never heard of that rule. This whole unwritten rule garbage is entirely subjective, and what is OK to someone, might not be OK to someone else. You can't get on someone over something that is as flimsy as a silly notion that you're supposed to run one foot (or so) away from where the player actually ran. As for him yelling "I got it", check a replay, and watch his lips. He yelled, but it pretty clearly isn't "I got it", and it doesn't appear to be words at all. That's a misrepresentation on your part. Additionally, parallel to yesterday's incident, there were many analysts who spoke up at the time and said that players do things like that frequently.
  8. Wow, if you had told me Bailey was going to look like that in the ninth, I would have been sure that the Yankees would put up a fight. Instead nothing. The offense looked lost the entire day.
  9. Better pitch right there than the one Zeigler got last inning. Regardless of the result, this will be CC's last batter. EDIT: The contrast between Braden/Zeigler and Bailey might be a bit too much for the Yankees to handle. Thames is due up fifth. If the inning gets that far, I'm guessing that's where we'll see Posada. EDIT 2: Thought that was gone off the bat. EDIT 3: Extremely frustrating. Bailey has very little out there right now, and the Yankees can't even get anything going.
  10. Well I hope Joe West is happy. The Yankees' certainly aren't lol. I did expect this today, but it has been a frustrating game nonetheless.
  11. Between Braden and Zeigler, the Yankees are seeing lots of deception. I do like though that Joe didn't go to Posada there, and instead is saving him for a better opportunity.
  12. Wow. Great play by A-Rod, delivering a perfect throw without setting his feet, after stepping on third. Also, a nice turn by Robbie.
  13. Seems like the perfect time for Aceves... But obviously no one is up.
  14. Cervelli has to catch that ball. The Yankees are teetering on the brink of losing any realistic chance to comeback in this game.
  15. Outside of two relatively hard hit ground balls last night, Robbie really hasn't hit the last two series. EDIT: Worst part of that AB is that the Yankees were probably pretty close to getting Braden out of the game. Instead, that probably bought him at least a few more batters.
  16. Almost the break that the Yankees need.
