  1. I don't have an issue with it today. Pettitte was throwing the ball just as well in the eighth inning as he was in the first inning. He doesn't have a ton of faith in his pen right now, and Andy was showing no signs of fatigue. I'm not someone that doesn't believe in pitch count at all, but I think it's best used in conjunction with how the pitcher looks out on the mound.
  2. That'd be great, but, while it's obvious, it's also worth reiterating that this is only four games. Last year, even though he wasn't as good, he started out well.
  3. Over the first four games, the command of his off-speed pitches has been really surprising.
  4. Nice job by Pettitte, after the leadoff double, against the heart of the order, to limit the damage. Also, nice play by Swisher.
  5. Gom, don't you think Teixeira is already over home plate by the time he makes contact with Wilson?
  6. Apparently Swisher bunted on his own. I really hope (but I'm confident it won't happen), that the coaches discuss that decision with him.
  7. Agreed, but it still doesn't make the decision a good one. Anyway, always nice to only make the pitcher earn one out during an inning.
  8. Absolutely hate the bunt there. EDIT: It's an absolutely awful play there. Pineiro has given up six hits in three plus innings, and Swisher has a double today, after swinging the bat well last night. Hate that play.
  9. Another bad call. Between the bad call at third, the bad strike three call, the bad decision by Napoli, and the hard hit ball right at Cano, I'd say that's about as lucky an inning as a pitcher can have.
  10. Looked like a bad call there, but that was a poor decision by Napoli, and a nice play by Pena.
  11. I think the MLBN guys spent sufficient time on it to render a reasonable opinion. Regardless, we've discussed a relatively minor topic ad nauseam, not getting very far.
  12. Nothing to show for it, but three well struck balls in the first inning. At the very least, early indications are that Pineiro doesn't have the same stuff that he had a couple weeks ago at NYS.
  13. Maybe it's just me, but isn't Teixeira already over the plate when he first makes contact with Wilson (based on that picture)?
  14. Why is their opinion anymore valid than the MLBN guys?
  15. Teixeira said after the game that, when he saw the catcher turn towards him, he assumed he had the ball, and made the decision to go into him. People make poor decisions when forced to make them in haste. I think this is a plausible scenario. Either way, we're going in circles.
  16. That's based on the assumption that he knew it was unnecessary. At the time, he very well may have thought it was necessary, simply coming back to the point that it might have just been a bad decision.
  17. Yeah, again, there's no question in my mind that what Teixeira did was unnecessary. I'm just not convinced that there was any ill-intent.
  18. Haha, but I'm sure he didn't say after the game that he felt terrible about the injury.
  19. There is one thing that we do know, and one thing that we don't know. What we do know - He could have scored without colliding with the catcher. What we don't know and what we'll never know - What his intent was. It's a pretty senseless argument in my opinion.
  20. Couple more quick follow-ups about Teixeira. Him and Wilson were briefly teammates in 2008, and, as I mentioned before, they talked before the game today. Additionally, both managers called it a clean play. Source - yankees.lhblogs.com
