  1. Listening to Robinson Cano talk after the game (in barely comprehensible english) about a new focus, I can't help but think back to Melky. This is purely speculation, but I really do believe that the Yankees were dead set on getting rid of Melky this offseason for a variety of reasons. The first of which is obviously that he was able to net them Javy Vazquez, but I think there were two big underlying reasons. 1. They wanted to free up a lineup spot so Brett Gardner, who the Yankees probably recognized as a superior player to Melky, could play everyday. 2. I really do think that they felt getting rid of Melky would allow Robbie to take that leap into the upper echelon of the league. It has only been a month, and I obviously can't prove that his focus has improved without Melky on the team, but it certainly couldn't have hurt.
  2. However, for what it's worth, as bad as Teixeira looked in April last year, he has been much worse this year. It isn't solely in the numbers, but also his ABs. Tex put together plenty of good ABs last April, often just missing pitches because he timing was slightly off. It has been a different story this year, as it has just been bad AB after bad AB.
  3. Nice win. CC didn't have his best stuff, but against a bad offensive team he was able to limit the damage, and still pitch deep in the game. Also, Teixeira went 1/5 tonight, but hit a couple balls hard after have a number of good at-bats last night. I'm cautiously optimistic that he might be on the cusp of breaking out.
  4. I'm curious to see what kind of national attention this receives.
  5. Just looking for a little clarity here. No one in Tampa cared about winning the World Series, because they already achieved their goal in winning the American League Pennant?
  6. Certainly hope so. Coming from the perspective of someone who doesn't have a rooting interest, the NBA playoffs would become a lot less interesting if LeBron was injured.
  7. Lebron shot his final free throw of the night lefty, and seemed to be in some pain (right elbow).
  8. Yeah, well over 100, and the last two batters hit rockets off him. Part of Robertson's ineffectiveness tonight might stem from inconsistent work, but this loss isn't on Joe.
  9. The starting pitching, outside of Vazquez, continues to be good. Unfortunately the offense is going through a cold stretch, and the bullpen has just been awful.
  10. Great pitch to hit. Good defensive positioning.
  11. The last pitch to Granderson wasn't even close.
  12. Well this will be four losses in five games. I'd say it's safe to say this team is officially struggling.
  13. Not surprising. They were benefitting early in the season from unsustainable contributions from guys like Swisher and Granderson. At this point, until Teixeira starts hitting and A-Rod starts showing some power and Jeter starts getting on base a higher clip, they will continue to struggle. Hopefully that happens sooner rather than later.
  14. Love to know why Joe isn't pinch hitting Winn.
  15. Again, these guys are not going to pitch well without consistent work. The whole year Robertson has really just been used to get one or two outs in a jam, and then has been pulled.
  16. Robertson is rarely used, and he struggles when he comes into a game. Shocking.
  17. Got to admit, last time I was there was in 2006 for a few Yankees games, and the place was pretty loud. Surprisingly, it wasn't really the Yankees' fans.
  18. Not too many worse base runners, regardless of speed, than Jorge Posada.
  19. Man this team does some stupid things at times.
  20. Wow great call, no way I thought they got him. Good job by the umpire.
  21. Have to get Mitre up. I love how Joe is so easily influenced by one positive result (the double play), after all the struggles. Hughes might turn it around, but I'm not optimistic. EDIT: Still very shaky, but a bit better.
  22. Not sure Kevin Millwood could have gotten luckier that inning. He looked terrible. It's amazing that this game is 1-1.
  23. As I said in the first inning, he has absolutely no command tonight of any of his pitches.
