  1. Looks like if Manny goes anywhere it will be to the West instead of to N.Y.
  2. is this trade official yet? if not, are the physicals the only thing making this trade from becoming official in the next few days?
  3. Great article by bill simmons on page 2 http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/051122
  4. I love your avatar
  5. seems like Josh is pretty excited though
  6. Right-hander Jesus Delgado could be the minor leaguer the Marlins receive along with Hanley Ramirez and Anibal Sanchez for Josh Beckett, The Associated Press reports. Delgado, a 21-year-old reliever, was added to Boston's 40-man roster last week to protect him from the Rule 5 draft. He throws in the mid-90s and keeps the ball on the ground, making him a potential setup man. (per rotoworld)
  7. And to think we did all this without a GM.
  8. i'm kind of worried about Lowell, hopefully the monster can help him out

  12. idk if this has been posted yet
  13. A great pitcher is nearly impossible to find. If the Sox can get him they should not pass it up. But, as far as i am concerned hanley, and lester are both off limits if they weren't we would have traded for burnett at the deadline Sanchez could be traded for the "right" deal....
  14. Gabe Kapler (Achilles' tendon) will be re-signed to a minor league contract by the Red Sox. He hopes to be ready to play in spring training. Apparently, the Red Sox guaranteed Kapler $850,000 in 2006 when they brought him back from Japan in July. He'll get his money, but the team released him yesterday in order to gain a 40-man roster spot. Because he was released, he won't be eligible to rejoin the major league club until May 15. That could work out well, as Rule 5 pick Adam Stern will need to begin the year on the active roster but will be eligible to be sent down in May. (per rotoworld)
  15. From ESPN: The Rule 5 draft First off, note that it's not the "Rule V Draft," but the Rule 5 draft. It's called the Rule 5 draft because the section of the Official Rules that covers the draft just happens to be Rule 5 in the book. Eligibility: A player not on a team's Major League 40-man roster is eligible for the Rule 5 draft if: the player was 18 or younger when he first signed a pro contract and this is the fourth Rule 5 draft since he signed, OR if he was 19 or older when he first signed a pro contract and this is the third Rule 5 draft since he signed. A player drafted onto a Major League roster in the Rule 5 draft must remain in the majors (on the 25-man active roster or the DL) for all of the subsequent season, or the drafting club must attempt to return him to his original club. However, since a returned Rule 5 player must first be placed on outright waivers, a third club could claim the player off waivers. But of course, that club would then also have to keep him in the majors all season, or offer him back to his original club. Occasionally, the drafting club will work out a trade with the player's original team, allowing the drafting club to retain the player but send him to the minors.
  16. The red sox released kapler today and purchased contracts of 6 other players
  17. Another candidate By David Lefort, Boston.com staff The Red Sox announced another candidate for their vacant general manager's position Friday afternoon: White Sox director of player development David Wilder. Sox officials, including CEO Larry Lucchino and Tom Werner, will interview Wilder on Saturday. Wilder, who held positions with the Braves, Cubs, and Brewers before joining the White Sox in 2004, is expected to speak with the media after his interview on Saturday afternoon. According to the Globe's Gordon Edes, Wilder played a significant role in building the World Series champion White Sox, urging GM Ken Williams to take a chance on Bobby Jenks and A.J. Pierzynski and Carl Everett, players who came with varying degrees of baggage. Also according to Edes: Wilder would seem to have some appeal for Lucchino, who has shown a preference for talent evaluators. Wilder will be the first minority candidate to be interviewed by the Red Sox. For more information on Wilder, check out his biography on the White Sox' web site. Candidates Jim Beattie and Jim Bowden were called back by the Red Sox for second interviews
