  1. The fact that Regier was willing to give 3yr/$10M to Spacek tells me that Darcy is working on long term deals like this for the core. I see him giving guys like Miller and Briere the type of money that Mckee was looking for, and Tallinder and Lydman a little bit less. Hopefully guys like Gleason are off the mark when they say Darcy is unwilling to give longer term contracts. My guess is that he wanted to see if his plan of having smaller guys with speed would pay off. I remember Lindy saying before the beginning of the season "Either we'll be really right or really wrong." Well, they've been really right, so now it's time to sign them to longer term deals. Mckee and Grier probably didn't fit into their salary structure, and Regier did lose his gamble on Mckee last off season. So, the line up so far looks like this, I guess: Hecht-Briere-Dumont Afinigenov-Connolly-Vanek Roy-Drury-Kotalik Pominville-Mair-Gaustad Extras: Pyatt/Paille-Peters-Novotny Tallinder-Lydman Campbell-Spacek Kalinin-Numinen Janik-Paetsch Miller-Biron/FA/Trade Probably one of the deepest forward corps in the league, a very solid defense, and a young outstanding goaltender, should be another fun year.
  2. This is a good pick-up.... he can move the puck, and not a bad shooter..... He's kinda gotten a raw deal playing with some s***** teams like Chi and Col....I've seen him a bunch though. He'd have been #1 or #2 on our team last year in pts....and can play about 24 minutes a game.... He'll fit in nicely for McKee. Lydman was laying guys out all playoffs. Kalinin can lay guys out. Thats enough. Ide like to see Tallinder start hitting more with his size, but our defense is all about positioning, skating, and speed. I'd rather have a fast defense then a huge defense that can hit. Spacek fits right in with this team skating and skill wise. We play an exciting style, and this signing just goes right along with what the Sabres want to do.
  3. game over, at least the yanks are gunna lose
  4. does it look like the sox are gonna sign any more dominincans??
  5. http://tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=170401&hubname= BREAKING NEWS: TSN.CA REPORTS THE EDMONTON OILERS HAVE TRADED DEFENCEMAN CHRIS PRONGER TO THE ANAHEIM DUCKS FOR RIGHT WINGER JOFFREY LUPUL, A NON-ROSTER PLAYER AND SEVERAL CONDITIONAL DRAFT PICKS. hmmm scott neidermayer AND chris pronger...not too shabby ...and Stevey Y. retires
  6. I think you need some more speed up front.
  7. Another Homer Pick, ATG
  8. He'll probably have Jenks close the game instead of Mariano or Papelbon.
  9. Buehrle over Schilling? Homer Pick.
  10. Alright, well, here I go It appears that some teams still don't get it. These fat cat GMs are still throwing crazy amounts of money at one or two players while the rest of the team is relegated to splitting the scraps of payroll left under the cap. How do these GMs not remember that this is the same exact behavior that took them to a bitter battle with the player's association and a year-long lockout? The owners were so staunch about their position and that they just "couldn't make money under the old system, etc." yet here we are again--throwing crazy money at one or two guys. Look at Kubina, Hatcher and McCabe to get examples...they were signed for big money under the new NHL. I don't get it. Because of a few idiots, the whole league (once again) is forced to pay the Jay McKee's of the world $4 mil for blocking shots. Now, I'm not saying that he's not worth it comparitively speaking. I'm saying the people setting the bar are getting paid too much when there are other players on the team that deserve raises as well. These long-term commitments will hurt those teams in the future with a cap on the payroll. Look at NJ w/ the Mogilny situation. This season, he will be paid 3.5 mil to play for Albany, and it counts against the cap. Come on, these GMs need to realize that this is not 1987 and see these players for what they are -- long-term commitments that asks the players for no real commitment in return to kill themselves to play. Once signed to 4, 5 or 7 year deal, what's the incentive in year 6 when you are 36 years old? I am quite pleased that all these teams are signing ONE PLAYER to major contracts and handcuffing their team's future to aging players. It cannot be good and only time will tell. Hell, I don't even want to commit to the same car for 7 years! On the other hand, I hope Buffalo signs one marquis d-man to ensure that we have a chance to go all the way. By marquis, I don't mean big money, just a great value and upside--even if a little older. They don't need to be our savior, they just need to be the piece of the puzzle that completes the team (leadership, patience, puck-handling, great pp), because remember this same team went to the Conference Finals just a year ago, and our GM waited out the FA period, so I trust him.
  11. wow, walking the pitcher on 4 pitches
  12. ahhh my bad
  13. nope, semifinals first. Portugal vs France Italy vs Germany
  14. Are they only announcing the starters tonight? And does anyone know who's in the Home Run Derby?
  15. Minnesota Wild nabbed Keith Carney and Kim Johnnson also.
  16. http://tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=170279&hubname= The Devils resigned Elias for somewhat of a good deal at 6mil per season, but that contract is scary long at 7 years, especially with his hepatitis or whatever he had.
  17. Sounds like a NASCAR race.
  18. Cross another one off the list: Mark Parrish signs with Minnesota for 5 years at 2.36 mil. per season. They should be a lot better on the offensive side of the puck with Gaborik, Demitra, and now Parrish. But, will just miss the playoffs, IMO.
  19. 2000 career homeruns? dammmmmmmnnnnnnn I know you mean hits, I'm just being an ass.
  20. Per TSN, Rob Blake is off the market, heading back to LA. Now that he's back, trade biron for nordstrom or vischovsky. ...And Martin Gerber signs with Ottawa.
  21. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=170243&hubname=nhl Jay McKee to St. Louis, Thanks for the memories Jay, you were a great Sabre. I was worried about him going to the Maple Laughs, now I can breathe a sigh of relief.
