It's Black Wednesday in Philly. Philly waived Nedved and Baumgartner.
This quote from Mike Knuble said it all: "This is an all-time low not only for this team but for the history of the organization, We've had wakeup calls before, but that was a flat-out, gut-wrenching embarrassment."
That team is a complete train wreck.
Before dumping another player, why not send Bobby Clarke to the unemployment line? That neanderthal refuses to build for the current game. He's living in the past.
I don't know if it was common knowledge or what, but before the game Esche made some comment about Hitchcock basically saying he's a dumbass. And Hitchcock came back saying "Tit for tat."
ESPN alluded to the fact that it may have been the reason that he was not pulled and was kept in for all 9 goals. I don't know if I agree with that. I don't think a coach would do that to a player on purpose. But if that was Hitch's intention to send a message, him and his team are absolutely disgustingly horrible.
But it's kind of weird. Hitchcock then said after the game "This is not on Robert Esche. Esche played great. We win as a team, we lose as a team, and Esche played great."
Umm, great? Sure, its not all on Robert Esche, but to say Esche played great 2 times after he and his team got lit up for 9 goals is just silly. Esche was great for 1 period. That doesn't equal great in any galaxy.
He couldn't stop a beachball for 2 (In fact, Versus had Briere Mic'd up and he said "We could score with a beach ball ) periods.
ESPN also made a comment last night before going to commercials with Top 10 Plays following. "Sportscenter top plays coming up. We have all 9 Sabre goals and one baseball play."
