  1. if the astro's arent in playoff contention during the deadline, he will with be in a Yanks or Sox Uniform. http://www.nypost.com/sports/38641.htm
  2. but does anyone think we could get vazquez... how about we trade payton to stockpile prospects so come midseason we can get an arm (sheets?) or whatever else we need...
  3. I know Theo has said he is done making moves.* BUT, today I read about the diamondbacks being interested in Jay Payton cause they need a center fielder.* It has also been said that they need to deal Javier Vazquez to an east coast team as well.* LOVE to see Javier in Boston, especially after he told the evil boss he'd be sorry if he traded him.* Just don't givem any of our starters.* Cash, prospects, Payton. . .
  4. Jan. 19 - The Cubs agreed to a minor league deal with reliever Scott Williamson. The 28-year-old right-hander will earn a salary of $316,000, or $500,000 if he's called up, The Chicago Tribune reports. The Cubs also hold an option on Williamson for 2006. Williamson, who underwent elbow surgery in mid-October, isn't expected back until at least August. He was 0-1 with a 1.26 ERA in 28 relief appearances for Boston last season.
  5. chokes? remind us of anyone?
  6. yup pats and eagles
  7. yup i think it will be MIA vs SAN/MIN/PHO (i dunno yet)
  8. UConn consistentcy is an oxymoron. Recall they swept SU in NC03, but had a double digit L column. ANyone that ever owned a husky will understand that they love to run but basically cannot be trained. They will have bad games, especially the young ones. Throw in an arrogant driver (Calhoun), fans with football mentality, and women that overshadow the men, you might as well stand back and laugh. THey are nightmares for the pollsters, who will want to judge them favorably because they, after a handful of sidetracks last year, lived up to their billing and are defending champs. UMass gets up for them the way SU gets up for BC on the gridiron. SYRACUSE Number of Times Ranked: 339 Number of Times Ranked #1: 6 Number of Times Top 5: 46 Number of Times Top 10: 144 UCONN Number of Times Ranked: 157 Number of Times Ranked #1: 11 Number of Times Top 5: 51 Number of Times Top 10: 99 UCONN reminds me of the 1990 SU team...Tough froncourt, no PG. SU tried Stevie Thompson at PG, a freshman Michael Edwards. Ed Nelson = stiff, overrated transfer much like Leron Ellis.
  9. LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers closed in on a contract Friday with postseason hero Derek Lowe worth about $36 million over four years, and finalized their deal to keep left-hander Odalis Perez. "I can't comment yet -- saying yes or saying no," Lowe said from his home in Fort Myers, Fla., when asked about a possible future with the Dodgers. Los Angeles was holding off finalizing a contract with Lowe, wanting to first complete a deal that would send Shawn Green to Arizona, a lawyer involved in those talks said on condition of anonymity. looks like he is LA bound
  10. Keep up the good humor, Bronx. This year, will the Yankees money be enough to fill the void between the admriable baseball intelligence in Boston and the cover-your-mistakes- with-George's-money stupidity in New York? Only time will tell. With $ and players who cheat with drugs and ball slapping, NY should have the edge. Too bad, though, the title has to be won on the field and not in the purse department of a NY department store.
  11. Syracuse University is collecting donations at tomorrow's seton hall game
  12. m not asking for stats, a won-loss record, final result or anything of the sort.* I'm wondering what developments will occur during 2005. In 2004, we suffered through a defensive lapse, never had Nomar until later and saw Pokey playing shortstop, losing Trot Nixon for the better part of the year, having Mueller's knee eventually require surgery, seeing lots of playing time by Youkilis and Kapler, the struggles of Pedro and Lowe, the trading of Nomar, adding of Meintkiewicz and Roberts and Cabrera... and again the team 'built to win a championship' did so but in a way nobody would have guessed at in March. In 2005...looks like we have a slightly improved lineup with hopes of healthier seasons for a few, a lot of depth if less of a sure thing from the rotation (though Pedro and Lowe proved not to be so reliable as we expected in 04), a potentially improved bullpen with Mantei....and expectations that come October we'll see this team playing there.* History tells us it won't happen that way.* Who will be traded?* Who will be hurt?* Who will be added at the trading deadline?* Who will emerge as the surprise?* Who will disappoint?* What will happen?* I predict an aggressive and successful attempt to add a high profile pitcher before the trading deadline that will change the look for the stretch run and playoffs. Oh...I predict the Yankees will have to stand there and fume as the Sox raise the championship banner on opening day at home!
  13. If we trade BK, Millah and Minky we can get 3 decent prospects for the farm, plus trim about $8 million (we'd need to pay about $4 mil of BK's $6 mil). Delgado will cost about $11 mil, so in the net we'd raise the payroll only $3 mil, stockpile prospects for a superior July package for Ben Sheets, and have a nasty BALANCED lineup: CF - DAMON (LEFTY) SS - RENTERIA (RIGHTY) DH - ORTIZ (LEFTY) LF - MANNY (RIGHTY) 1B - DELGADO (LEFTY) C - TEK (SWITCH) RF - TROT (LEFTY) 3B - MUELLER (SWITCH) 2B - BELLHORN (SWITCH) This would drive managers nuts with bullpen management.* Any thoughts?
  14. uconn is better!?!?!?? uconn lost to umass , su's only loss was to former #3 Oklahoma State! that was a good joke thought...take your show on the road
  15. Update: Sources close to the situation have confirmed that there is no validity to the Los Angeles-based radio report that Carlos Delgado has signed with the Red Sox. Earlier today, Lee "Hacksaw" Hamilton, a host of LA based radio station XTRA Sports 690/1150 (The superstation) reported on air that the Boston Red Sox had signed free agent first baseman Carlos Delgado to a four-year deal for $46 million ($11.5 per year). "Having spoken to an irrefutable source," CN8's Ed Berliner also confirms "there is absolutely no validity to the story whatsoever" and the source was "laughing at the LA radio report." The source did confirm that Delgado's representatives have been in contact with the Red Sox, but nothing is imminent or worthwhile to report at this time. Does anyone know if the red sox have made a formal offer to him? And does anyone think that the sox will trade both millar and minky and sign delgado?
  16. good win but doubt they will beat syracuse smith vs warrick will be a great matchup.

  19. Met sources: 'We got Beltran' January 5, 2005 - Two separate sources within the Mets organization are telling New York Fan Sites that the team and prized free agent Carlos Beltran has reached agreement on a seven-year, $112 million contract to bring the All-Star to Flushing. The team would not confirm this report and NYFS could not get independent verification.

  22. the only thing i like about this is aquring magglio and possibly moving manny (to DH that is). but it wont happen. but i do think the 1 reason ortiz has excelled in boston is because he does not have to worry about defense, all he has to do is hit
  23. ppl are acting like this is the end of the world for the sox fans (not anyone on this board, but some friends of mine) ok lets see they have pavano (14-0 after 1???) and wright (not scary at all) i still like our pitching staff, in this article the sox react to the trade http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/bos/news/bos_news.jsp?ymd=20050103&content_id=926896&vkey=news_bos&fext=.jsp remember of all the AL teams he gives up the most runs to who???......the RED SOX
