  1. Jacoby has a propellar up his ass.
  2. Portland's cursed. Big blow to the city, the team, and the NBA.
  3. good for this young man that hopefully he will get to lead a normal life.
  4. I've watched the replay of the tackle several times and I still don't understand what happened other than maybe he twisted his neck in a weird way. It's times like these that we realize that it is just a game and there are things far more important My prayers to him and his family. Hopefully he can make a full recovery and be back to his normal self.
  5. I don't know if it was you but I remember someone making the argument that Joba will be better than Clay because he can throw HARDER...while that is true, it is utter ********. And I'm sure that if other relievers had 2 days rest after 2 innings...they could throw pretty good heat too. Clay's fastball is sometimes his 4th best pitch which means he chooses to get people out other than throwing it by them, he can throw a change on a 3-1 count, when the hitter is expecting fastball. When a batter gets up against Joba they are sitting on a fastball and they KNOW its gunna be fast, but these guys are professionals and its their job to hit the ball so even though its gunna be hard its not like its impossible to hit. I would find it much harder to hit a pitcher who throws 92, can place his change up wherever and whenever he wants, has a 12-6 curve and can also throw a decent slider-cutter thingy. His pitches are untouchable when used correctly. He can throw any of those pitches with any count too, which is more valuable than a pitcher who throws hard fastballs and hard sliders. Just ask Brian Roberts who was blown away by a Buchholz fastball after 105 pitches. As long as he is being caught by Jason Varitek for a couple more years, one of the best gamecallers in the history of the MLB, clay will have an incredible future. 'Tek was calling 2-0 changes and Clay didn't shake him off once during the no-hitter.... Jason Varitek has caught 3 no-hitters, the second most of any catcher ever.
  6. Being a Buffalo Bills fan, I am very impressed with Marshawn Lynch. Edit: and Buffalo breaks our hearts again...
  7. teddy, are you a little tipsy?
  8. Hughes and Joba have shown they can handle the bigs, but Ii think the Sox rookies have the upper hand because of the surprise performances. Pedroia went from a sub-mendoza line april to a rookie leading .324. Okajima has been absolutely lights out in the role of setting up papelbon after he was signed basically just as a fellow countryman for dice-k. Ellsbury is going to have a huge future. In his limited time in the bigs, he has proven to be a spark with his blazing speed a great bat. And then there is Clay Buchholz who just threw a no-hitter. Unlike some fans, I have faith in the guys Theo drafts. In April of last year, many people would have said Pedroia was gonna be a .250 hitter that was hitting in the 9 spot at best. Four years ago, Youkilis was a fat third baseman with no glove. If the guys that you dont think will be quality major league players go another year without making any progress, Theo will get them out of there. Think Kason Gabbard and David Murphy. If you think back to the Dye deal, Theo absolutely wouldn't give up Masterson. All I'm saying is Theo knows a lot more about the prospects than we do and I'm excited about the future of the Boston Red Sox. That pretty much sums things up...Advantage: Red Sox
  9. Joba Rules: One inning pitched requires one day off. Two innings requires two days of rest. Three innings of work means three days on the pine. And he needs two days off before being asked to throw two innings. Clay Rules: Shut up and pitch a no-hitter
  10. We should defintely change it. 36-16 is such a bad record. You know the saying. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
  11. Oh Well, life goes on.
  12. tullys sports bar and grill is always good, a lot of sox fans there. hooters, obviously. RJ Lanigan's is an irish bar with a good amouint of sox fans, and zebbs in mattydale is also a good spot.
  13. Don't think you speak for every sabre fan when you say that because i have watched every minute of this season and will continue to do so. i still believe the sabres will take it in 7 (red sox in '03 against their HATED RIVALS?) Sabres WIN In Seven I have a feeling. HONESTLY. Tommorow will be UGLY - they will steal it, its MILLER TIME. They roll the Sens in Game 5 - no way if they come home they lose a 3rd straight home game Game Six - Ottawa is where we are now - gripping the sticks to tight and we're rolling now. Game Seven - Come on? You think we lose after taking the last three? I know 0-3 sucks, but read this and tell me its impossible. It starts with a good shift, period, game tommorow. Ottawa better close it out tomorrow when it still can. Otherwise, a shitstorm begins. Considering the Sabres haven't played anywhere near their potential and have lost what were essentially three one goal games, it's certainly not a completely ludicrous possibility The only 2 teams to come back from a 0-3 defecit to win the series were the 1942 Maple Leaves and the 1975 (cant remember the team). those 2 teams were 33 years apart. Well from 1975 to 2007 is 32 years apart, i see a trend begining. If history plays out according to this one thing then the sabres will win the series 4-3. BELIEVE!!
  14. well down 2-0. this seems like the way its goota be...the sabres have to make it interesting first.
  15. The Rangers played very well. There defense at the blue line, and crowding of the net was problematic for the faster, higher scoring Sabres, therefore testing their patience. Renney, who I admit I didn't think much of before the series, deserves huge credit for his game plan. Lundquist was amazing. Yesterdays game was the only game the Sabres figured him out. But in the end, and over the long series, the better teams tend to find a way to win, unless you are the Senators. Rangers were hot coming in and playing at the top of their game. While the Sabres, although not playing bad hockey by any means, haven't played tehir best hockey as of late. However, great teams find a way to win, and that is exactly what the Sabres did in this series. The two best teams in the East are rightfully in the conference finals. Lundqvist is a great goaltender, almost single handedly won game 5 for the Rangers. I thought 17 goals in 6 games was about all you could ask for against him. The Sens have given the Sabres trouble this year but I think the Sabres will find a way as they have all year. Emery won't be able to make the big saves that Lundqvist did in this series.
  16. For a pro rated 28 million you can have him. The Sox offered 18 pro rated so as a Sox fan I can't say they didn't give him a serious offer. The Yanks will get a little better but to really contend that bullpen has to lock it up. Everbody knows what you get with Clemens in the AL, 8-10 wins and a 4+ ERA going 6 innings a start. Last year I would have been as pumped as Yankee fans today b/c we really were desperate for a starter (as the Yanks are now) but this year it just would have been nice to see him come full circle and finish up wearing th #21 again. Our pitching is doing its job so I could really care less we didn't sign him.
  17. props to the rangers for a very hard fought series that better prepared us for ottawa in the ECF. My five observations before Ottawa: 1. Tom Renney is a class act and I have nothing but respect for him after this tough series. He angered many fans prior to game 1 with his "cream of the crop" comments...but his intentions were more of a reminder to his players that they could compete with the Sabres than an insult to Buffalo. To me it appeared to be calculated gamesmanship similar to what Ruff is known for. He rallied his team from a 2-0 deficit and constantly appeared to be motivating players on the bench through good and bad. He didn't cry foul the way the Islanders did when his team didn't get calls and he didn't make excuses when his team lost. After Game 6's loss, he said In Buffalo, as a team, we saw a team that had the resolve to withstand a team coming at them hard and perhaps in a way that they did not expect I couldn't put it better myself and I think that comment represents Renney's intelligence and quality as a coach. Ottawa's Bryan Murray's lisp/marbles in mouth comments after Sabres games this season make him look like an amateur next to Renney by comparison. 2. Call Jagr all the names you want...and there is no denying his talent for letting his emotion influence his comments after games...but the guy put his money where his mouth was for most of this series. The Sabres couldn't handle him often in our zone - we won't see another offensive player of his caliber these playoffs. Sure I laughed when he appeared to be crying during his post game interview but at the same time had the impression that he left everything he had on the ice and...how else could someone respond when they care that much and their sacrifice wasn't enough? He'll still be booed in Buffalo...but hidden behind those boos should be greater respect. 3. Chris Drury will command more money on the open market than any other unrestricted free agent this off-season. Yes, more than Gomez, Briere, Souray or the likes. Why? Because he maintains a quality that doesn't appear on GM's "hit list" when they price players. He just leads and wins. If his performance thus far in the '07 playoffs doesn't drive that home, what will? How many 30 year old players have the aura that he does?...a legendary icon in the hockey world. I hope to someday see Drury's name hanging in the HSBC rafters. I suspect many other GM's, especially those managing young team's that are looking for a player to lead...not just score, prefer it to be their building's rafters. I really hope I'm wrong on this one by the way... 4. The Buffalo Sabres are a far superior opponent for Ottawa than either Pittsburgh or New Jersey. Pittsburgh had plenty of talent but was far too young and inexperienced...especially on defense and goal. No team in the NHL relied more heavily on one player than New Jersey...and Marty Brodeur was not...well, Marty Brodeur against Ottawa. Ray Emery is a solid but unspectacular goaltender...and Buffalo will test him far more than Pittsburgh or Jersey did. Buffalo has already - in my mind - made it past the 2 toughest goalies they'll face these playoffs. Finally, while Ottawa won 5 out of 8 games this year against Buffalo...they beat Buffalo when they were missing players like Tallinder, Max and Drury...oh yeah, add Connolly and Zubrus to that list. 5. We all know how crazy HSBC Arena and pretty much the entire city have been throughout the first two rounds of the playoffs. But Ottawa?...the Sabres' biggest and most hated rival...you can't write this any better. This town is going to explode. To be the best, you have to beat the best. It wasn't pretty, but the boys got the job done. Save percentage needed to get the job done Giguere .953 Lundqvist .935 Miller .933 Not getting the job done Emery .918 Brodeur .916 Fleury .880 Clearly the Senators have played versus some questionable goaltenders thus far, and whats worse for them is that their goalie isn't even over the .925 considered to be getting the job done. Goaltending is the Senators weakness, and if you don't know it now......you will soon. You can bet there is going to be some lingering hostility in the Buffalo/Ottawa series. I'm sure the haven't forgotten that the Sabres knocked them out in 5 games last year, and right now the Sens have looked like the best team in the playoffs, let's change that. These two teams hate each other more than anything. this will be some serious hockey with big hits and a few fights Let's Get it On!!
  18. best announcer in all of sports.
  19. Amazing Game. Down 1-0 and Drury (AKA Hockey God) scored game tying goal with 7.7 seconds left and Sabres won in overtime to take a 3-2 series lead. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V13XO-2X1mE
  20. well since i dont like the pats...f*** brady for this s***.
