  4. tidbits on 4th round pick William Blue: Blue tossed a three-hitter, struck out 11 and went 2 for 3 with a double and a three-run homer that gave the Pirates a 5-1 lead in the third inning. Blue (3-4, 1.25 ERA), who struggled with his control while posting a 1-5 record and 8.12 ERA last year, has discovered his command and the results have been stunning. Armed with a fastball clocked in the low 90s and a knee- buckling curveball, Blue, who had tossed a no-hitter in his last start, has allowed one earned run, 14 hits and has struck out 52 in his last 321/3 innings. In his last three starts, he has struck out 38, an overpowering stretch that accounted for an overflow crowd on Friday that included at least eight radar-toting professional scouts behind the backstop.
  5. pick # 168, sox chose CF Reid Engel from Lewis- Palmer HS....he is 6'2", 175 lbs.
  6. The Mets signed free-agent reliever Danny Graves on Thursday, after he cleared waivers. Graves fell out of favor with the Reds after numerous horrible outings. While the Reds tried to trade him, there was minimal interest due to a large contract and additional contract clauses that required a salary increase in the event he was traded. In the past couple years, Graves has lost some speed off his fastball, his control, and as a result, quite a few games. It's tough to imagine them using Graves over Looper in the closer role. Both pitchers have had their rough outings, but as of late, Looper has settled down, converting his last 11 saves. The same cannot be said for Graves. At this point we expect the Mets new acquisition to settle into a set-up role

Earned his ninth save of the season in the Red Storm's 4-2 win over Pittsburgh in the BIG EAST Tournament, throwing one inning and striking out two batters ... 8. Ellsbury has few holes in his game and is capable of beating teams in a lot of ways. He has excellent makeup and instincts. His best tool is his speed, and it’s evident both on the bases and in center field, where he catches everything hit his way. He has been clocked in 6.55 seconds over 60 yards. He has become more patient, rarely swings and misses and is comfortable hitting with two strikes. His style of play and physical appearance have drawn comparisons to Johnny Damon at a similar age, but scouts say Ellsbury has a better swing. They question whether he’ll grow into the same power, though. I believe you can watch ellsbury when Oregon State plays the University of Southern California in the NCAA Super Regional on Saturday.
  9. With the 138th overall pick the Red Sox select RHP William Blue out of Morro Bay HS....
  10. I just can't see hanley in CF next year, with Damon and Pierre on the FA market....
  11. I'd like to hope this is end of the story in the Sox system, but where there's smoke...

  13. Draft is tomorrow and wednesday!!! Sox have 6 of the first 59 picks in the draft..... The Sox lost their first round pick (#28) from signing Renteria, but gained #23 (Cabrera) and #26 (Lowe). They also have three picks in the supplemental first round: #42 (Pedro), 45 (Cabrera), and 47 (Lowe). In the second round, we lost the #78 pick (Wells), but gained #59 (Pedro). We do not have a third round pick because of the Clement signing. I am not an expert on amateur baseball, but I thought someone needed to get the ball rolling. 15. This schilling situation would put Theo into defense mode and probably go out and get the best pitcher on the market (Clemens or Burnett or Zito depending on the situation). While if the sox say outwardly that Schilling will be back, then the sox rotation is perceived to be set and the sox can peruse trade offers without having to worry about the yankees or O's one-upping them. I truly think Zito is a name to keep on your mind, I really can see him in a sox uni this year, it fits Theo's MO.....
  16. federer will win wimbledon....roddick vs federer in the final....AGAIN!!!!
  17. IF damon signs with another team after this year, do you think we would sign pierre or move hanley to CF?
  18. i got the sox-angels game, and I live in syracuse NY
  19. my favorite surface is grass, clay and hardcourt are at the same level of likeability (is that a word?) for me......
  20. yeah but nadal played federer pretty damn tough in florida earlier this year, i think he was a few points away from beating federer in straight sets but roger stormed back..... Where's Roddick? Maybe he should work on his footwork instead of his 151 MPH serve...
  21. .....and the sox to that list The Sox are interested in reliever Danny Graves, who was designated for assignment by the Reds after he pulled a Byung-Hyun Kim and made an obscene gesture at a fan, but expect him to be traded by Cincinnati before he could become available via waivers. . . . http://redsox.bostonherald.com/redSox/view.bg?articleid=84815&format=text
  22. Hit a HR today in his FIRST minor league game...ever.
  23. Dennis "Oil Can" Boyd earned a roster spot with the Brockton Rox and signed with the minor-league team on Monday, preserving his attempt for a big-league comeback 14 years after he left the majors. He is scheduled to start for the Rox against the Worcester Tornadoes on May 30 — his first professional outing since 1997. "He pitched seven scoreless innings in the exhibition season and deserved to make the team," Rox owner Van Schley said. Boyd, 45, pitched 10 years in the majors before blood clots in his right arm ended his career. He had 13 complete games for Boston in 1985, was 16-10 in 1986 and went 10-6 with a 2.93 ERA with Montreal in 1990. Boyd was 78-77 in the majors overall. But he also had a colorful lifestyle and quotable outlook that made him memorable long after his career ended. Boyd made a variety of low-level minor-league stops but aborted his first comeback attempt in 1997. He said last week that his goal is to return to Fenway Park and pitch for the Red Sox. "I'll go to Pawtucket for a couple hours," he said of Boston's Class AAA team, "and then let's go get the Yankees. The powerful Yankees." hmmmmm..........dunno if theres a thread on this yet
