  1. is it really necessary to have 3 posts in a row in a span of 7 minutes?

  3. The Red Sox and Rangers reportedly discussed a deal that would have sent Manny Ramirez to Texas for a package including Alfonso Soriano and Adrian Gonzalez. It doesn't sound like the discussions went very far, however. The Red Sox also reportedly tried to ship Ramirez to Florida for A.J. Burnett, but were told they'd have to take Mike Lowell and his salary as well.
  4. I agree with many close races this year there will be a lot of "buyers" out there on the market.
  5. This would not be part of the "manny mega-deal" I would welcome this guy if it wasn't at the expense of manny
  6. lets post all deadline deals in this thread, unless they are so huuuuge they need a new thread
  7. Deadline deal looks unlikely Saturday began with a whirlwind of rumors regarding the Manny Ramirez trade, and ended with Ramirez being scratched from the lineup amid talk he had played his last game in a Red Sox uniform. This morning, Ramirez is still a member of the Red Sox, and indications are he’ll still be a member of the Red Sox when the 4 p.m. trade deadline passes. But you never know, stranger things have happened. Here’s a recap of the latest rumblings: From the Globe's Gordon Edes: “A three-way deal that would have sent Ramirez to the Mets collapsed yesterday afternoon, but the Sox continued negotiations separately with the Mets for Ramirez. ... Disagreement (with the Devil Rays) over the prospects in the trade, and monetary issues, could not be overcome (in the potential three-way deal). The Sox and Mets then dealt one-on-one regarding Ramirez, but according to major league sources, neither team was optimistic a deal could be struck before today's 4 p.m. deadline. ''I think we'll just wait and see," Greg Genske (Manny’s agent) said. ''It could be a long night." Under terms of the proposed deal, the Sox would receive the righthanded hitting Cameron and the highly regarded Milledge, a 20-year-old outfielder and No. 12 overall pick in 2003, for Ramirez, with the Mets apparently prepared to absorb most, if not all, of Ramirez's contract. 'We will not make a bad trade,’ one Red Sox source directly involved in negotiations said yesterday, a signal that the Sox did not believe they were getting enough in return for Ramirez.” From ESPN.com’s Jayson Stark: “Late Saturday night, a source involved in the Ramirez discussions pronounced the Ramirez trade -- or trades -- to be ‘99.9 percent dead.’” Along with the trade rumors, there was also controversy over whether Ramirez asked to be benched for the second time in less than a week, or whether it was Terry Francona’s decision to sit Ramirez. Here’s a rundown: From Edes: “Francona said the lateness of his decision to sit Ramirez stemmed from a lack of ‘privacy’ in the Sox clubhouse once the media are allowed in, which is why he didn't meet with Ramirez, he said, until after the clubhouse closed again at 6:20 p.m. Francona, who originally had Ramirez batting cleanup and playing left field on the lineup card posted in the clubhouse, denied that Ramirez had come to him a half-hour before the game and asked to be taken out of the lineup, then 15 minutes later said he wanted to play, a version of events provided by a source who had spoken to high-ranking club officials. From the Providence Journal’s Sean McAdam: “According to sources familiar with the situation, Ramirez told manager Terry Francona 30 minutes before gametime that he wasn't going to play, only to return 20 minutes later with a change of heart, offering to once again be put in the lineup. By then, however, the Red Sox manager wasn't about to accommodate him and stuck with a lineup that was without Ramirez. Kevin Millar took over in left field for the night, with John Olerud inserted at first base.”
  8. yeah this trade obviously isnt going to happen, sox want a 72 hour negotiation period and they would only get about 7 hours to negotiate an extentsion for burnett, so this trade is all but dead.
  9. then wouldn't stern have to be offered back to the braves? what about gonzalez? and I couldn't see papelbon being here more than a week, since miller is scheduled for wednesday, and clement for either thursday or saturday.
  10. you guys picked a really funny name and an odd one WACEY RABBIT, pick 154 for the BMen.
  11. yup especially with johnson going against another rookie pitcher in the bronx, but anything can happen. the angels OWN the yankees
  12. Yay!!! More Days off for Millar.
  13. i've read that he's consistently 92-94 with his fastball, and he was voted as having the best breaking ball in the system. And Schilling was raving about his splitter, Curt says his split is pretty nasty. And he seems to be a competitor and all that, and if he made a believer out of Schilling, then heII, that's enough testimonial for me. And you couldn't pick a better tutor than a guy like Schilling, i guess they did nothing but talk pitching the whole time Curt was in Triple A. Long live Papelbon! LOL.
  14. Cruz is a decent hitter... The 31-year-old Cruz is a career .248 (999-for-4,028) hitter with 208 doubles, 30 triples, 187 homers, 563 RBIs and 102 stolen bases in nine Major League seasons with the Mariners (1997), Blue Jays (1997-2002), Giants (2003), Devil Rays (2004) and Diamondbacks (2005). And a great fielder... A Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner with the Giants in 2003, Cruz has topped 20 home runs five times, including four of the last five seasons. He registered consecutive 30-homer seasons in 2000 and 2001, and joined the 30-30 club with a career-best 34 homers and 32 steals for Toronto in 2001.
  15. So Theo breeched on a deal that completely screwed the Rockies. Thats awesome. You wanna know why, because that will effect this team in doing any kind of three way trades in the future. Now that Theo is known as a "breecher" it will be tremendously hard for us to get a deal for manny. He's defenitely staying. The Rockies are angry because now they're stuck with Larry Bigbie? What? Is it going to hurt their play-off chances or something? Apparently, he's not all that thrilled with them either. Lee Mazzilli said Bigbie cried when he found out the Os were trading him
  16. I heard on redsox.com, and I am really excited to see what Jon has got, I'm sure the faithful will be excited as well is lester gonna be promoted anytime soon?
  17. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2005/07/30/bigbie_to_boston_appears_to_be_off/
  18. yeah sorry about that guys, guess the trade isnt gonna happen since we traded for cruz
  19. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2119978 another reason the deal is dead is because the red sox wanted more than just cameron from the mets. thank god! common sense prevails.
  20. you know that you could just press the quote button, you don't have to re-type the persons message you are quoting.
  21. David Wells on his weekly talk with the afternnon crew on; AM/FM the Score in RI stated: " I never thought I could like Manny when I played for the Yankees. However, I have gotten to know him as a teammate and, he is a very good guy". However, later in the boadcast he states: " Manny kind of does what he wants, you know, he will decide when he wants to run out a grounder, or loaf after a fly ball". " But what do you do, get rid of the guy altogether, I don't know. It is a flip of a coin really". Later, he went on to say: " Look, Jason is our Captain, but this is a TEAM game. I will pitch on three days rest if needed". " You know, guys get hurt, one of your guys is whacked with a line drive, I mean, you step up and do things for the better of the team, that is what this about". " I may take some heat for my comments, but I am Veteran and I speak from my heart". Some VERY interesting comments from Wells. Certainly suggests this has been an issue in the Clubhouse and even further suggests that the veteran guys are getting tired of his act. I think Wells realizes that they need to put up with him like it or not. He's ambivalant about Manny, but he's a professional and will do what's needed to win. I think that's what he was saying.
  22. I would have rather gotten byrnes, but whatever.
  23. http://www.projo.com/redsox/content/projo_20050730_30trade.2277485a.html I don't know if I like this deal, the trading of shoppach really kills any talk for wagner. Could this be a precursor for a deal for Manny? I hope not
  24. Yep, I agree, but I was making fun of my family since most of them are Yankee fans.
