  1. Seeing Red: Playoff Atmosphere In Anaheim Two of the AL's hottest pitchers square off when Bartolo Colon and the Los Angeles Angels face Tim Wakefield and the Boston Red Sox to open a four-game series pitting division leaders. Colon has emerged as a Cy Young candidate by going 4-0 over his last five starts, limiting the opposition to two earned runs or fewer in all but one of those outings. The right-hander surrendered a run and four hits over eight innings in Saturday's 9-1 victory at Seattle. Colon struck out five and walked one, moving within one victory of Chicago's Jon Garland (16) for the AL lead in victories. ``The story of the game was Bartolo,'' Los Angeles manager Mike Scioscia said. ``We did a lot of things offensively, but the way he was locating his pitches and staying ahead in the count, he stayed away from trouble.'' Wakefield has been just as sharp, reeling off four victories in as many starts while allowing two earned runs or fewer three times during that stretch. On Saturday, the knuckleballer allowed two runs and seven hits over 6 2-3 innings, striking out five without a walk, in a 7-4 victory over the Chicago White Sox. After winning seven in a row and extending their home win streak to 13, the Red Sox opened a 10-game road trip by dropping two of three in Detroit. On Wednesday, David Ortiz grounded into a game-ending double play as Boston's ninth-inning rally fell short in a 6-5 defeat to the Tigers. ``We definitely had our opportunities,'' Red Sox center fielder Johnny Damon said. ``We had a good comeback win last night. We had a shot today. But we didn't quite finish out the job. The double plays killed us today.'' Ortiz, who hit two homers in Tuesday's come-from-behind 10-7 win, added a two-run single Wednesday to give him 107 RBIs -- one shy of teammate Manny Ramirez for the major league lead. While Boston enters this series with a 4 1/2 -game lead over the second-place New York Yankees in the AL East, Los Angeles holds a two-game edge over Oakland in the West. After winning four in a row, the Angels dropped the final two of their three-game series with Toronto, including Wednesday's 4-1 defeat. The Red Sox took two of three from the Angels at Fenway Park from June 3-5. They also swept Los Angeles in three games during last year's AL division series.
  2. definetely.... Vlad's Career vs T. Wakefield 4 HR, 6 RBI, .400 AVG (10 At Bats) and in his last 7 games... 13-27 (.481 AVG), 8 RBI, 10 R, 4 HR, 3 SB
  3. I'm gonna say we split, wake has been pitching really well lately (knock on wood) and I look for him to continue his stellar performance. game 1- wake vs colon game 2- clement vs lackey game 3- arroyo vs santana game 4- papelbon vs byrd I like the pitching matchups in all of them, if we keep it close we have an excellent chance. And with no lefty's coming out of the bullpen for anaheim, how do you have a chance to get ortiz out, not that it would have mattered. as for ALCS- I wanna say a battle of the soxes.
  4. meh another yankee fan, just kidding glad to have you here, welcome
  5. Speaking about waiver wire deals Gammons on WEEI said "I saw the cleared waiver list today and none of the players we would want cleared waivers" In addition the players WE wanted to trade who have value like Mueller, Youk, Arroyo and Myers failed to clear waivers. At the trade deadline I warned the Yanks wouldn't allow us to make any important waiver wire deals. I was told "You don't understand the waiver process. Teams put so many guys on waivers the Yanks can't POSSIBLY anticipate and block deals. Too many guys to claim. Well we HAVE been blocked. Now will the know it alls come to this thread to apologize for being wrong? I doubt it. We'll see.
  6. I want tickets!!!!! all hail sox fan on cape.
  7. yeah thats what I proposed in another thread. I think that would be the best idea.
  8. Sorry all you Millar fans but this guy is KILLING US this year. 1B is a power position and 4hr's and 40rbi is completely unacceptable, in fact what does he do well? His glove is average at best, he's a terrible base runner (one of the worst in the league) and he hits like a second basemen. Anything he tries to pull goes foul and he refuses to hit opposite field even though yesterday he did but probably not on purpose. I truly believe the only reason he's on the team still is because he can play the OF (about as well as he plays 1st) and he's our only righty 1B. Mind you he's hit 5th in the line up for most of the season and produced very little of anything worth while. I do understand that he hit's behind Manny and Ortiz and they are RBI machines but that still doesn't get him off the hook. Theo really needs to address 1B this off season and if Millar is such a great club house guy then keep him around as a utility player OF/1B/PH and if he can't accept that then too bad. He's done nothing this year to make a case as a starter and should be treated as such in the off season. -Just a side note Minky, whom we gave away to the Mets has more HR's and a higher SLG % in 117 fewer AB's AND he fields a gold glove 1B. I know he was on the DL for a minute but he still looks better than Millar. dedicated to guybo
  9. I think this is somewhat relevant. If Tito can choose Graff over Bellhorn, why can't he choose someone else over Millar? Bellhorn has been better amongst second basemen than Millar has been amongst first baseman. Don't get me wrong, Graff right now is the clear-cut choice as the starter, and Cora is probably the defensive replacement. But if Tito and Co. can be "loyal" to one guy, why not the other?
  10. http://www.rookiesquantities.com/Images/UDCC95_028.jpg future foundation???? LOL
  11. Cashman just might have gotten lucky with Chacon but these other guys...well... Just when you think they can't stoop any lower, they come up with Rueben Rivera, and lower the bar just a little more.
  12. and this will solve your CF dilemma?
  13. lucky? Yeah, I can see it now.....Theo flipped a coin on whether to trade nomar or not, give credit where credit is due.
  14. what about yesterday?
  15. NESN is reporting that the Red Sox may promote Craig Hansen from Double-A before Tuesday. Hansen has pitched a total of just seven innings since being drafted (with a 9-to-0 strikeout-to-walk ratio), but Boston's bullpen is in rough shape. per rotoworld
  16. yeah, he certaintly has the stuff and i think it could only help the ballclub
  17. its true, gods pissed off at you and considerin bruce almighty is located in buffalo, which is in ny gives you a hint
  18. end of august

Its a mad mad mad mad world on the waiver deadline.
  20. How the hell does Justin Speier get through waivers? A 38:8 K:BB ratio in 50 innings. A 0.80 WHIP and 2.16 ERA. No team in the majors could stand to take a $1.9 million contract for that?
  21. Speier, Kline, Hawkins, and Looper all interest me. What about Joel Pineiro... He is a young kid, once a top 5 prospect in the Seattle organization. You trade for him, stash him in AAA for the next month, bring him up in September and see how he progresses. He'd be a good player to take a flier on (not for 2005, but for 2006). Unfortunately, I really don't see us going out and getting anyone that is really stellar. The cost will simply be too high - just as it was at the trading deadline. If the FO has shown us one thing, it is the reluctance to trade top 5 prospects to fill an immediate need - unless the possible return on that investment justifies it. Of course it would be nice to get a young arm for the pen, but does anyone really think that a team like Seattle (for Pineiro) or NYM (for Looper) are not going to ask for something massive in return - ala Pedroia, Hanley, etc. And does anyone think that either of those guys (Pineiro or Looper) are worth more in the long run than Pedroia or Hanley?
