BOSTON -- The Red Sox tendered contract offers to right-hander Bronson Arroyo and second baseman Mark Bellhorn before Monday night's deadline, securing the services of those two players for the 2005 season. The club non-tendered catcher Sandy Martinez, as well as left-handed pitchers Lenny DiNardo and Billy Traber. All three of those players are now free agents. However, Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein is confident he'll be able to keep at least one of those players under new terms. link

Well i'm glad about this trade. Roberts will get his wish to start and play in his hometown. I wish him luck. I'm hoping payton doesn't mind starting. Maybe Nixon will get traded....

On Sunday, the veteran right-hander rejected salary arbitration from the Marlins, meaning he will entertain other offers. Although Valdez declined arbitration, he can still negotiate with the Marlins up until Jan. 8. Should Valdez sign elsewhere, the Marlins would receive a compensatory draft pick This guy is pretty good. If the sox want to put arroyo or wake in the pen he could be a pretty good starter.

(Getty Images) • DePodesta holding up mega-trade PHOENIX -- It was mostly quiet on the Randy Johnson trade front on Sunday with multiple sources saying that the three-team deal still hadn't been submitted for approval to Commissioner Bud Selig and that there was no certainty it would be on Monday -- most likely because a high ranking Dodgers official said the team is re-examining its participation. But Dodgers general manager Paul DePodesta said late Sunday that he was having second thoughts about the Los Angeles segment of the deal. full story b.t.w- the dbacks added Mike Koplove to the deal he's going to the dodgers. He is a reliever that went 13-6 in his career with a 3.44 ERA in 171 appearances.
