Giants signed outfielder Moises Alou, who had been with the Cubs, to a one-year contract with a player option for 2006. The deal is worth $13.25 million and contains $500,000 in incentives. Alou, who said he will retire if the Giants win the World Series in 2005, will start in right field and likely bat fifth behind Barry Bonds. Michael Tucker is now the Giants' fourth outfielder, but he should take some playing time away from Marquis Grissom against righties.

The Chicago Cubs today agreed to terms with outfielder Todd Hollandsworth on a one-year contract for the 2005 campaign. Financial terms of the contract were not disclosed. He was eligible for salary arbitration.
