Sorry, don't think I caught this editted piece in time. Anyway, more balls are hit to SS than right down the line at 3B. That ball that Cairo bobbled the other night could have potentially been made into a great play if A-Rod was there. Besides, A-Rod played SS for much longer than he's played 3B. It's not like it's suddenly going to hurt to have A-Rod play SS until Jeter is back. Cairo doesn't have as much ground to cover at third. Bunt coverages sure, but third is a position that you could replace much easier than you could at SS.

Unless Youk gets on to load the bases... then we're royally screwed.

He probably wants some life at the bottom of the order. A lifeless 7-8-9 is a sure 3 outs. With Youk down there he can provide some pop.

It's ridiculous. No one on that team, when Jeter is injured, knows how to play SS better than A-Rod at the moment. Would you argue that? Cairo would be more of a fit at a corner position. The point is, is that it makes more sense for A-Rod to play at SS with things the way they are now. I don't blame them for playing their third baseman at third, I'm just saying that it would be better for them to have A-Rod play SS in Jeter's absence, considering he's probably the best SS on the team even if Jeter IS healthy.

Well, I wouldn't have said that before Roloson got hurt. If he's still playing, Edmonton could possibly be up 2-0. I guess this is how it goes though.

If it isn't A-Rod, I'll laugh. I liked your comparison last night, 700. Made perfect sense. I was wondering myself why A-Rod, arguably a better SS than Jeter, wasn't at that position last night. Miguel Cairo at SS over A-Rod? Give me a break.

Beckett's not hurt, but I'm not sure when his next start is because of the rainout, and from the looks of it, there are plenty more of those coming our way. I think we just saw what we had seen earlier from Beckett. A nice string of great outings, then one or two that aren't so great, then he goes back on. The problem is that his change up is only 6-8 mph slower than his fastball, so there's not much difference. He wasn't locating his curveball very well so he had to resort to the changeup but he was getting smacked around even when he threw that. Beckett's fine, he just needs to have more command.

And you are... ? But anyway, See Red basically just took what I was going to say. Besides, I'd blame last night on Tito more than Seanez. Seanez can only pitch like himself, which unfortunately for us, is what we saw last night. Tito needs to know that using Seanez in a situation like that wasn't the best idea. Giambi is a very selective hitter and Seanez tends to be pretty wild. Luckily, we didn't see Tavarez in that position or it would have been a lot worse. Seanez should have, if at any time, been in there a batter early. Pauley pitched very very well and I look forward to his future on this team as a 5th starter. I could get used to watching him in that role. But hey, if you're using that excuse for Seanez with the 50,000 New Yorkers, don't count on Fenway being easier. At least he was pitching in front of 50,000 fans that love him last night. It will be harder when 36,000 fans are screaming and hate him.
