Sorry, I didn't mean to make it sound like you thought I did. I meant sticking it to the fans would be a bonus for him.
A-Rod didn't "leave" Texas...he was traded. C'mon, you remember, you gave up Soriano for him (by the way, I shudder to think at the Yankees lineup as it currently is but with Soriano in there instead of Cano, if they were to somehow retain Soriano and obtain A-Rod).
Like you, it doesn't make sense to me either. If money is first and foremost for A-Rod and he opts out, then obviously it's New York and the fans. Who knows? Maybe he realizes he can live off of around $20 million/year instead of $27 million per, and decides to stick it to the fans. You know someone will most likely give him at least 20M/year...
I do love my Red Sox. I'm also not blinded that the Yankees appear on paper to give you the most championships. That's the exact reason why so many people love to hate you. If A-Rod dons a Sox jersey next year, you can damn well expect he'll probably be the most hated guy in the rivarly's history. I mean...at least Johnny Damon didn't opt out to sign with the Yanks...
