  1. We've lost games by 2 and 1. Kevin Youkilis in the lineup most definitely could have changed that. This isn't about not getting an unfortunate bounce, it's about having one of your star players in the lineup. If there's one hypothetical that was most likely to come to fruition, it's that the Sox prob could have won with him in the lineup. If we miss out on a playoff spot by a game or so, I will point to this part in the season because it's the one set of losses that could have been reversed if we simply had him in the game. It's not like he's injured and can't physically play. He's out because it's his own damn fault. If you're not a contender but make the playoffs, you don't have to do anything to your team to become one. The playoffs are a crapshoot. Do you really think the Rockies were considered "contenders" before their hot streak at the end of 2007? No. They became on pretty quickly without adjusting their roster though. Yes, it won't be Youkilis's fault alone. I understand that. But he will have played a pretty tremendous part in the lack of a playoff appearance considering it came at a point in the season where we were playing the team right behind us in the WC standings.
  2. I mean, he's been here since '05. But yeah, I will anyway. EDIT: IP search brings up nothing.
  3. All of 2006 and some of 2007. We traded Bronson Arroyo for him in spring training of '06, and then traded him to Washington I think in August of 2007 for Chris Carter.
  4. Are you really that young or did you not follow the Red Sox back then?
  5. AND THE 500 HR CLUB /thumper EDIT: ... lolol
  6. This thread gets honored for thread of the year.
  7. I would like to know this history, because the only thing I can truly think of was the Varitek/A-Rod fight in 2004. And, well, I don't blame him one bit for that. Other than that, I can't really think of anything. I can see Varitek just trying to tell him it wasn't intentional and Kinsler being real hot and reacting sharply. That's probably what happened. Varitek wasn't angry until after Kinsler barked at him. Whatever, it doesn't matter. No, he wasn't hit in the head intentionally. It made no sense whatsoever from the situation at hand, and Cabrera has poor control and was trying to back Kinsler off the plate but it got away from him. Unfortunate, but unintentional. No one sends a message by hitting someone else in the head unless he's a known headhunter.
  8. Don't worry about what was said. I appreciate how you kept your distaste for the situation low. You'd be shocked at how many people come on here and talk like we are somehow responsible for what happened and that we should be ashamed of our team. Anyway, I do not believe there is a past history. They were probably buzzing him to try to get him uncomfortable in the box. He's a tremendous player, so I don't blame that type of approach. That said, when you ask someone like Cabrera, who has extremely s***** control and most people didn't even know he was even on the team, to try to buzz his tower, something like that will happen. It was unfortunate, but I'm sure it wasn't intentional.
  9. I thought it was a legitimate question. Someone getting hit in the head isn't funny, ever. Sometimes there's a feud at work. You never know. He could have been way nastier about how he asked his question... in fact, the way he asked his question is textbook of how someone who dislikes what happened should ask about it. He could have vented and used insane amounts of profanity. He didn't.
  10. I think this is the most optimistic I've ever seen you.
  11. You completely changed the way in which the gagging comment was used. Thus, insult failed.
  12. Who on the waiver line is better than Brad Penny? I'll give you a clue: they're all Brad Penny types, if not worse than Brad Penny.
  13. No. Cabrera is a nobody bullpen reliever who has s***** control. The game wasn't out of reach at the time, and there was no reason to put another runner on base. It was unfortunate, but it was definitely not intentional. I didn't like how Kinsler barked at Varitek while he was trying to calm him down. I know he was pissed, but aim your anger at the correct person.
