  1. Neat. I snowboard too, and since I live in VT... it's easy access! Never been to Sugarloaf though. Have fun!
  2. 50 HR's is a bit of a stretch. 40-40, absolutely. But not even Manny's hit 50 HR at Fenway....
  3. John, Where are you going skiing?
  4. Last I heard was 4 teams. Yankees Astros and 2 "un named" teams.
  5. At this point, that's all we can hope for. A Yankee Rotation with Johnson in it is DEFINATELY far superior to ours. And to get Burnett the Sox would probably have to give up Arroyo. Unfortunately it looks like MAYBE Clement in that #2 spot.... and that scares me.
  6. Well, it sucks that I have to say this, but: At least he didn't go to the Yankees. And the Red Sox don't have to face him. Atlanta could be scary with Hudson and Smoltz in a potential postseason....
  7. Here's ESPN's article on Beltre. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1947751 It seems true. He's headed to Seattle.
  8. Personally, I just don't have confidence in Kim. He has pitched well, and has shown that he can dominate, but until he comes out and strings together some quality starts, I'll still be skeptical.
  9. I still would have rather seen Orlando at a cheaper price than Renteria.... but I guess I'll get over it.
  10. Wow, that was mature.
  11. I would hate to see the Sox get in a bidding war for Clement, yet we do need a solid starter. I read somewhere (I think it was the Boston Globe) that Anaheim was prepared to go to 3 years, 27 million ($9 mil per) but Boston was not likely to increase their offer. Matt Clement is 69-75 in his career with a 4.34 ERA. Last year he was 9-13 but with a 3.68 ERA, suffered from lack of run support. The past 3 years, Clement has been decent. About 9 K's per 9 IP, and over 2 K's per BB. He also gives up more grounders than flyballs, which is a good thing coming to Fenway. Compare that to Derek Lowe (who is also seeking $8 mil per), who averaged about 5 K's/9, about 1.5 K's per BB, but much better groundball percentage. Overall, I'd say Clement would be an upgrade over Lowe...
  12. What John said is absolutely correct. Edgar is good, but he's not $10 million a year good.
  13. I like the idea of bringing back Nomo. He had a rough 2004, but he pitched well for Boston. His rough 2004 may make him a bargain pickup.
  14. Renteria's definately a quality #2 hitter. I always thought Orlando should have hit there too. A decent mix of speed and power. Bellhorn's got a great OBP, and is a good alternative if the Sox feel Renteria should hit 6 or 7... but if it was my choice... I'd go with Edgar.
  15. One thing to note: I never said the Sox WERE going after AJ, it was more of a question: Should the Red Sox go after AJ Pierzynski. Stocker: I've never heard that he was a pain in the clubhouse... where did you hear that?
  16. While I have no doubt Renteria will be a quality player for the next 4 years, it seems his price tag is a little high when Orlando would have come cheaper. Going from Busch to Fenway should help Renteria's offensive numbers though.
  17. Phelps isn't exactly an "A list" type guy. That being said, I like the idea. He's a lot younger and cheaper than Millar, and has similar overall ability. The thing that worries me is Phelps' lack of plate discipline, but that could improve. I like the idea, but Theo would have to do some serious finagling to get it done.
  18. wow. That's hostile. Pedro Martinez was the ace of this staff for seven years. Pedro Martinez helped the Red Sox win the World Series we fans have craved all our lives. Pedro Martinez has given us hours of entertainment. Where's the love? Personally, I am surprised that he didn't go somewhere warm. It's well documented that he doesn't pitch as well in cold weather, and New York will have cold April and September games. He REALLY would have thrived in a place like Anaheim or St. Louis. Personally, I don't buy into the crap about Pedro being washed up. He's not the pitcher he was in the late 90s, but he is still a very good pitcher. Will he miss some games? Probably. Will he continue his antics? Of course. But all that crap was worth it EVERY TIME he stepped on the mound, because you KNEW you had a good chance of winning that day. Pedro's a competitor. I could care less what he does off the field, but when he steps onto it, he was one of the greatest pitchers in Red Sox history, and for that, I am thankful to Pedro Martinez. I wish him luck with the Mets. I'd be thrilled to see them win the NL East, and have a successful season (because it WILL piss off George). Pedro Martinez will be missed. Does that mean the Red Sox can't move on and be a successful team without him? Absolutely not.
  19. http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/news/mlb...s_mlb&fext=.jsp With Matheny signing a new deal, the Giants have released Pierzynski. He would be a younger and potentially cheaper option than Varitek. Should the Red Sox persue him? Thoughts?
  20. A Kim for Jennings type deal may not be too far off... although the Red Sox would have to pay Kim's salary.... which is probably why he still hasn't been traded.
  21. Not ONE Red Sox fan in this thread has made that claim. Please read the posts before replying.
  22. How do you suggest we get the talent to trade for Tim Hudson AND AJ Burnett?
