  1. Great minds think alike.
  2. You know, I was going to say something sarcastic, but really this site can use a little feminine input. So that's cool. Though I'm not totally sure I understand the Mark Bellhorn obsession. Can one of you two ladies (at least I'm hoping you're ladies) explain this to me? The way I sees it, he's a relatively well-built guy, like many baseball players (David Wells, for instance... uh... or Rich Garces... er...), but he's kind of greasy and scruffy looking, no? But, hey, I'm just a guy, so maybe I'm missing out on his charm and such. So (though I fear I'm opening the floodgates here) what is it about Bellhorn? Oh, I have an idea -- your favorite letter is K, and Bellhorn provides you with a lifetime supply . No? That's not it?
  3. I wish we could clone Timlin.
  4. Well, he was conceived shortly after I signed up. Hmmm... maybe that can be an advertisement for talksox.com. Sign up and increase your fertility! (Or maybe it was that kewl necklace I started wearing around the same time... .)
  5. Uh, I just changed my avatar and sig. Does that count? No? Well, maybe I'll mail everyone on the site one of my "amazing" "wow, that almost works!" "energy" necklaces... for a small donation, of course.
  6. Thanks Yeszir, you beat me to it. But if you're still interested, 04redsoxram, I'll gladly sell you a superb 100%-effective energy necklace for only, say, $29.95. I absolutely POSITIVELY guarantee that it works AT LEAST as well as the ones the Red Sox wear. Hurry! This offer won't last long! Take advantage of my bargain basement prices and bulk discounts! (Now I just have to stick a couple of quarters in the trinket vending machine at the local grocery store in order to stock up on my trusty "patented" "energy" "necklaces" .)
  7. Here. Of course, we're an hour later than our East Coast brethren, so it's not quite as ridiculous for us to be up at this hour... close, but not quite.
  8. Errrrrr... I guess we'll take it. E-3, and a run scores. EDIT: And more sloppy A's defense nets more runs. Nice clutch hit by Rent, though. He doesn't seem to be as useless as I thought. EDIT again: But what the heck is up with Ortiz and Manny punching out to end the inning? EDIT yet again (I don't feel like filling up this page with my avatar, so since I'm the only one here, I'm just serially editing my last post): Dang fine outing by the oft maligned Alan Embree - 5 up, 5 down. EDIT - The more I think about it, the more embarrassed I get on the A's behalf. In the 8th, we collectively hit one single, but we scored 4 runs. That's worse than embarrassing, that's, uh, well, really bad or something. It's too late to think of synonyms. EDIT - A win. Nice late-inning comeback (with a hat tip to the A's lousy pitching and defense), nice hitless holds from Embree and Timlin, nice save from Foulke... and nice work by Beaneater keeping this thread off life-support!
  9. HBP and two BB to start the 8th. Don't squander this, boys! That brings up Bellhorn, who is... 0-0 tonight with 3 BB??? What the heck -- don't people know that there's no point nibbling with Bellhorn? He's obviously got a good eye (a lot of BBs), and he OBVIOUSLY swings and misses a lot. So... throw him strikes, eh?
  10. Is it just me, or is Trot mashing the ball recently?
  11. TROT!!! The grand salami, and Myers, as (ahem) predicted earlier, is in line for the win.
  12. Bellhorn doubles, Mueller scores, the deficit is cut to one run. That just made soxie's night.
  13. Wade was looking pretty hot until he gave up the pair of homers. Now it's time for our hitters to bail him out so Myers can get the win! (Hey, we've been distributing wins to strange people recently [Foulke], so why not Myers?)
  14. The Voice of Reason. Pineiro's line looks awful for the M's... until you look as Gonzalez's.
  15. Yeah, I was about to bust on the D-Backs because the Rockies (the Rockies!!!) scored 18 runs on them today, but we're on track to have about the same done to us by the M's. Gruesome.
  16. We're trying... but I have to say that you're doing a great job holding down the fort by yourself. This way, we don't have to answer that age-old question, "What if they made a gameday thread and nobody came?"
  17. Totally. Even Myers or Timlin would be fairer. But like I (ahem) predicted (OK, I didn't predict it, just brought up the possibility), this is the sort of situation that shows just how meaningful a pitcher's record is. Heck, Randy Johnson was arguably the best pitcher in the NL last year, but he doesn't win the Cy Young because of his teammates' inability to hit the ball. What does that have to do with Johnson's pitching? Nuffin. Clement and Arroyo both deserved wins, but I think they're both the kind of guys that don't really care a whole lot about that (well, I don't know anything about Clement, but Arroyo is a team guy). The people who are important (namely, the Red Sox and their fans) know which pitchers 'won' the last two games.
  18. Ortiz must be thinking, "Hey, I'm supposed to be the one hitting the walk-off dongs, not just the little placeholder at first base." Seriously, though, I'm thrilled that we won the last two games, but when you're down one run in the ninth and Ortiz walks, as has happened the last two days, don't you put in a pinch runner? I mean, obviously it didn't matter in these cases since Ortiz can trot around the bases as well as anyone, but wouldn't you rather have Vazquez scoring from first on a double than Ortiz lumbering to third? All of this is rather nit-picky, though, eh? Nice work, Tek. And I'm sorry, Dotel, but we are absolutely your daddy. Foulke gets the win .
  19. Holy freaking cow are you kidding me?
  20. Millar gets another chance to be the 9th inning hero. If the Sox do come back, Foulke gets the win. That's just wrong, and it shows just how useful W-L records are for pitchers.
  21. And it's still not over...
  22. Wow, this place is deserted. Our starters rock. I'm pretty sure you all knew that by now, but I think it bears repeating. Clement - 7 IP, 5 H, 1 R. Nasty. Foulke - also nasty, but in a different way. Holy cow - I was just about to say that he made things really interesting but got the job done, and then he gives up a homer to give the A's the lead. That is totally ridiculous. 0.2 IP, 3 H, 1 2B, 1 HR, 1 BB, 4 R. GRRRRRR!!!!
  23. He loses the game with his glove and wins it with the bat. If this means Millar has finally started hitting, the pitchers of the AL are toast, at least for a while. Anyone rememer the tear he went on last year after the All-Star break? Nice win - studly pitching from all, including Embree .
  24. 6 IP for Arroyo and he's given up one stinking single. This guy is everyone's daddy.
