  1. I am definitely a Plumpamaniac.
  2. I think Mendoza is going to get shelled in AA. It is true that he controls the ball very well, but if your K/9 is around 3, you are going to get destroyed, especially in the Eastern League with little ballparks and bad weather.
  3. Oh, my mistake. I thought you were referring to Petit as that lefty who can throw 97.
  4. Actually, now that I think about it, the Sox are probably going to put David Pauley (the guy we got in the Dave Roberts trade) as the #5 guy in the Portland rotation instead of Luis Mendoza. Mendoza sucks. He can't strike out anyone. All he has is a 93 MPH fastball. His secondary pitches are awful and his heater isn't even that fast from a righty. He should be in the bullpen. Of course, Gabbard is just going to get hurt anyway, so we could see one of the kids from Wilmington get a bump. On a semi-related note, it looks like the Sox are going to be using Juan Cedeno in the bullpen from now on. I like that move. He could become a premier closer with the stuff he possesses.
  5. Also, Noah, Petit is right-handed. People have been calling him the "right-handed Sid Fernandez". http://www.jccardinals.com/2003appytop/2003_petit_yusmeiro_f.JPG - There's an image for proof. Your left-handed source is lying to you.
  6. Yeah, Bladergroen can hit now, but I don't think he'll hit at higher levels. He was old for his level, he's already had injury problems, he doesn't walk much and he strikes out a lot. The first thing I look at a young player in determining whether or not he'll hit at higher levels is plate discipline. Bladergroen had poor plate discipline against younger, weaker competition. He'll be a first bat off the bench type player... unless he improves that plate discipline of his. He is big and strong and does have lots of power potential. The question is whether or not he'll make consistent contact to justify handing him a starting job.
  7. I hope to God that it's Yusmeiro Petit. If the Mets are dumb enough to do that... well, they were dumb enough to trade Kazmir for Zambrano... and Huber and Peterson for Benson. So yeah, they are dumb enough to trade Petit for Mientkiewicz. *crosses fingers hoping it's true*
  8. This means Mientkiewicz will be an Oriole or Met by Spring Training. I think the Orioles have more to offer to us... unless the Mets want to give up David Wright and/or Yusmeiro Petit.
  9. Yeah, I was all for rushing him to AA, but it seems like he needs some time.
  10. I think a lot of who goes where will be determined by Spring Training. With the year Murphy had, he could be back at high-A (now Wilmington, no longer Sarasota) and Hanley could be bumped to Pawtucket if he tears it up. I do think that Moss is going to get a half or quarter season at Wilmington to prove he's the real deal.
  11. You pretty much have it in the order of how good they are going to be.
  12. Join two message boards... brilliant! Glad you're here, Plump.
  13. Plumpster, welcome aboard. We're a little less dysfunctional and a lot cruder than NS, but it's a good place to "Talk Sox"! Oh, I kill myself!
  14. I was just thinking about this for some reason. On April 15th, 2004, Jon Lester had a bad game in his only appearance as a reliever. In 0 IP (he didn't get an out), he gave up 6 hits, 9 ER, 3 BB and 0 K's. Here's his final line as a starter: 90.1 IP, 3.39 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, 2.85 K/BB, 9.66 K/9, 3.39 BB/9, 7.57 H/9 Pretty damn good considering he was only 20 last year. I expect big things if he keeps it up and remains healthy. That health has been a bit of a concern, as it is with most high school pitchers.
  15. Here's what Jim Callis has to say about Papelbon, who he ranked #3 in the Sox system behind Hanley and Moss. Looks like Steve got his Mickey Hall question in as well: EDIT: Callis also said that he'd put Hanley, Moss and Papelbon on his top 100 list. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/chat/041110jc.html
  16. Ever think maybe part of why his knee is so bum is what he did last year? 240+ innings on a man that age with no cartilage in his knee spells disaster for the coming season.
  17. 1. The Yankees, with the worst farm system in baseball, will be unable to trade for Sheets. 2. The Yankees will not be able to even talk to Ben Sheets until after 2006 and he could potentially be in their 2007 rotation. 3. By that time, Randy Johnson's knee will have collapsed and he will be essentially retired, Mike Mussina will be a staple on the DL, Carl Pavano will discover that low K totals in the AL lead to high ERA's and Jaret Wright will be getting fat on his couch after his Ricotta cheese shoulder explodes (for the umpteenth time).
  18. Schilling has been surgically repaired and treated and the ankle has been deemed ready by top doctors. On the other hand, RANDY JOHNSON HAS NO f***ING CARTILAGE IN HIS RIGHT KNEE! HELL-f***ING-O! There's a huge difference between getting surgery to be fixed and missing a part of your body. RETARD!
  19. You are correct. Rotoworld (it's pretty much my favorite website) was the one who I was thinking of in my previous post. Here's the article they quote. Quote from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: Said multi-year deal in the article is not done and may never get done. If it doesn't come to fruitition, Sheets will hit the market after the Sox three-peat as champions after 2006. http://www.jsonline.com/sports/brew/dec04/285031.asp
  20. Me = retard.
  21. Here's something from the Sox website by Ian Browne: Wade Boggs now has the credentials to have his number retired (election to the Hall of Fame and a decade with the Red Sox). Are there any plans to retire No. 26? -- Kellen M., Woonsocket, R.I. I'm sure the Red Sox will give it some thought. And I would expect there to be a Wade Boggs Night at Fenway Park in 2005, just as Dennis Eckersley had one during his Hall of Fame season. At this point, I haven't heard any talk about the Red Sox retiring his number, but you never know if that might change.
  22. I think finishing your career with the Sox is another criteria that the website forgot. Isn't the reason why Fisk got his number retired because he came back to a front office position? I'm not positive, but that's word on the street.
  23. I can't help but picture Jack Black kicking the dog off of the bridge in Anchorman.
  24. With what? They have no prospects and they have no cheap young players. Everything the Yankees could potentially hand over (in terms of young talent) the Brewers have in spades. There is no way King George could pull a trade for Sheets. He may be able to sign him, but that's a different story. I also heard somewhere that Sheets may not be a free agent after the year. I can't remember where, but someone said Gammons was wrong in saying that.
  25. No, that's what I'm saying. As soon as I saw it, I got it.
