  1. I almost forgot how much Pedro is a shell of his former self. Running Giese and Ponson out there, I'll take the split. Let's see if Andy can step up and beat Johan tomorrow afternoon. Should be a fun game.
  2. There are guys in Single A I'd rather trot out there than Farnsworth.
  3. Probably not since Cashman is getting a contract extension.
  4. Pinch hit Giambi for Molina. I don't see why anyone would disagree with that.
  5. Pedro could have taken the decision out of Little's hands, said "I'm done", and walked into the clubhouse to get a beer. He didn't.
  6. Kennedy and Hughes are hurt 2 months into their rookie season. Obviously their long term plan is ruined. Should have just traded them and Melky for Santana and paid him $150 million dollars. Stupid 'baseball people'. Cashman doesn't deserve to have a job.
  7. This has always been the plan, as 26 just outlined. This isn't Hank stomping his feet, this is what they've been planning all along. Find out if he can start at the big league level. If he can, you don't have to worry about the inning limit in October because you saved innings in April and May. He's got dominant stuff, and a good head on his shoulders. I think he'll be fine.
  8. I'm a Jets fan and a Knicks fan. I'm more than accustomed to not only losing, but watching New England teams prosper. My point is that vitriol towards the Red Sox during the Yankees 90s run was not nearly as pronounced as it was the other way around in '04 and '07. I get why it was like that, I'm just saying that our side has more incentive than we used to when it comes to gloating, etc. The rivalry was "hammer and nail" up until 4 seasons ago. Now there's actually something to get fierce about. It'll be more entertaining. Also, I do follow soccer. The winners of the EPL and Champions League in '08, Manchester United. http://picsrv.manutd.com/?fif=/manu/img_10_24195_2344.jpg&obj=iip,1.0&wid=240&hei=359&rgn=0.28,0.06969205834683954,0.6,0.5818476499189626&cvt=jpeg
  9. Whatever. Just be ready to take it when the pendulum swings back. Soon.
  10. I think he'll hold down the fort for a while with an ERA under 4. Once Phil gets healthy it'll be interesting to see what happens. If Rasner is still pitching well, there's no way he comes out of the rotation. But if Hughes is healthy and pitches well in rehab games at Triple A, how do you keep him down there? Long way off though.
  11. How about that Pittsburgh firepower? Detroit is in a different class. I know it's easy to say when there have only been 2 games in Detroit, but this series shouldn't last long.
  12. It was only a matter of time before people started hitting. Isn't it amazing how it coincides with Rodriguez getting back in the lineup?
  13. The Mets hit one ball hard off Pettitte in that inning. Tough luck loss for him, he had good stuff. Farnsworth shows up in a big spot again, way to be Kyle. People point to the Yankee pitchers as a problem, but the hitters are just not getting it done. 4 runs on 3 homers is not going to win you ballgames. Hopefully they'll wake up Tuesday when A-Rod gets back.
  14. Dallas down 3-2 with Game 6 at home. That series is interesting all of a sudden.
  15. Home advantage is definitely a bigger deal in the NHL. Besides the fact that the fans are nuts, the last change on faceoffs allows coaches to line-match.
  16. It's really not as easy to get pitchers as it used to be. Revenue sharing has allowed small market teams to lock up most of their starters, or ask a king's ransom for them. To get Josh Beckett the Sox had to give up Hanley Ramirez, who could be the best player in baseball. The game is different now, you have to develop your own pitching to have a chance to win, and that's what they've realized and started to do.
  17. Beckett would come in a trade. Pedro was finished in the American league, and has been continually hurt. Pavano was a free agent. You're comparing apples and light bulbs. Lilly sucks. Igawa sucks. I don't see the difference. He couldn't have had Matsuzaka. The Red Sox ridiculously overbid for his services. It wasn't a matter of Cashman being "afraid to pull the trigger." Shut up. Signed Farnsworth. Listen, I'm the first guy to get on Farnsworth's case, but who else was he supposed to sign? They needed an arm for the bullpen. It's not like he passed up on Joe Nathan to sign Farnsworth. He got one of the best guys available in a weak market. If you haven't noticed, he's tried to stockpile arms to turn into relievers from within the last few years. But no, he has no eye for pitching. Could have given up the farm and millions of dollars for Santana. I'm not faulting him for that. What lefty has anyone picked up over the last 10 years? Seriously, how is he supposed to get these people? Is he supposed to wave a magic wand and force Mike Gonzalez into the Yankee bullpen? If teams aren't offering these players, they're not going to get them. If nobody is a good free agent lefty, what is Cashman supposed to do? Brown was an upgrade over Weaver, who could not handle New York. Brown was decent, got old and that was it. Jeff Weaver would have been terrible with this team, so I don't see how you can fault him for being dealt. Cashman acquired Weaver in 2002. Weaver's line with Detroit at the time of the trade- 121 innings, 112 hits, 4 HRs, 3.18 ERA, 33 BB, 75 Ks. Yeah, why would you make a move for a guy like that. No eye for talent, I'm telling you. Weaver's problem is that he's a headcase, something that doesn't come out when you're pitching on a terrible Tigers team, but gets magnified in New York. Shame on Cashman for not being able to see that. Randy Johnson was a Steinbrenner move, and everyone knows that. Even if it wasn't his numbers the year before we acquired him are ridiculous. 245 innings, 290 Ks, 177 hits, 2.60 ERA, 0.90 WHIP. Oh yeah, and he was Randy f***ing Johnson. Hindsight sure is good, isn't it? (Also, good to forget that Johnson went 17-8 in 2005 with a 3.79 ERA and 211 Ks in 225 innings. He was just God awful.) This is getting repetitive, but I want to make this painfully obvious. Javier Vazquez in 2003, before the Yankees acquired him: 230 innings, 198 hits, 241 Ks, 57 BBs, 3.24 ERA, and a 1.10 WHIP. He was also an All Star in 2004 because he pitched so well for us in the first half of the season. He then had injury problems the rest of the way, and was moved for the aforementioned Randy Johnson. Ohlendorf has pitched a total of 27.1 major league innings. And Owings has been decidedly average in the National League, with a 4.33 ERA. Cashman didn't pass on Lincecum, he passed on Owings. The only reason anybody knows his name is because he's a good hitter.
  18. Hughes has been pitching with a cracked rib. How quickly can you forget how good he looked relieving Clemens in Game 3 last year? Hughes will be fine. Kennedy just threw 7.1 shutout innings in AAA, allowing 1 hit and striking out 8 and walking nobody. Yeah, there's absolutely no way he can succeed at the big league level. Calm the f*** down. Hughes is 21 years old. Kennedy is 23. Give them a chance to pitch.
  19. IT'S MAY f***ING 7TH.
  20. It happens. He'll bounce back. It's only May.
  21. I'm pulling for Detroit. They've been the best team all year, and it would make the Pittsburgh loss easier to swallow. That was a really tough series to lose. Every game was a coinflip, the Rangers just came out on the short end of it. Here's to hoping Philly puts Crosby on his ass.
  22. We're not dead yet. Jaromir Jagr is playing like a man possessed. I haven't seen him this dominant since the year he scored 54 goals out of the lockout. Completely unstoppable. Huge save by Henrik on the penalty shot vs. Malkin. Great game by him, period. I still feel good about this series. I mean, karma owes me one anyway after '04. This Ranger team has played much better than a typical team down 3-1. I think they can win Sunday and force a Game 6.
