Great, great dinger by Casas.

Somewhere in the game thread for the 2:10 game is comment by me that he is stupid. Completely uncalled for. It was for getting picked off, but lots of Sox have been picked off this season, including Duran.

Casas still struggles against lefty pitchers, but he sure looked professional on that last at bat against one of the great pitchers--Max Scherzer, a righty-- in the game today.

And boy was it needed.

Nice comeback start from Paxton tonight. The guy's just a talented pitcher.

I thought Paxton was young but he’s not that young. 34. I would bring back on a 2 year deal.

The thing we have to remember with Casas is he’s only 23 and this is his first full season. He’s going to have some struggles and he’s going to have some boneheaded plays, but the kids ceiling is high and he can rake with the bat. Patience with him is huge and I’m glad Cora kept him in the lineup when he was essentially an automatic out in April.

Paxton is 4 years younger than Scherzer and 6 years younger than Verlander. Scherzer and Verlander are each getting 43 mil next season. I doubt the SOX will have to pay Paxton 43 mil/year. Plus the fact that Paxton is pitching better than either this year.

If someone wants to overpay for Paxton, I’d sell him. If not, I’d definitely welcome him back on a short term deal

If the SOX trade Paxton, they'd better get a better starter for him. That may be very difficult to accomplish.

Trading him would essentially be giving up on this year. They wouldn’t get another starting pitcher for him

I believe the FO will extend Paxton. There's no sensible reason not to. Of course, this is entirely based that he has no further arm issues this season.

If the SOX are still in the PO hunt by the TDL, Bloom will have to find a starter. Hopefully, he can find one before the TDL. These two BP starts every 5 games really sux.

I think the SOX can maintain a one BP start every 5 days until one of their starters gets healthy. I don't want to see Pivetta starting because he's been great right where he is. Why f**k with success?

I believe the FO trying to obtain an average or above starting pitcher and a back-up catcher before the TDL should be the priority.

They really don't have enough trade value to expect to get much more w/o trading some of their better prospects.

Both of them are just a whole lot more durable than Paxton.

I'm not dwelling on Paxton's past history of injuries. Since he's been back, he's appeared to be healthy. When you mention durability, you should be more concerned with Whitlock.

A prospect starter, maybe.

Paxton is one of the most injury prone pitchers in the league. Verlander and Scherzer have been consistently GREAT and durable the entirety of their careers. Both are HOF locks for a reason. Paxton just doesn’t have that resume or consistency

Remember, we traded Vaz, then traded for McGuire.

Could they do something like that again for a SP'er?

Hard to know.

My guess is playing it both ways (sellers and buyers) might be the leading strategy, right now, among those who decide.

Justin Garza is another bad bullpen pitcher in a long line of them that Sox employe

They've had a problem with clean-up relievers, which begs the question "how bad really is the pitching on the farm?"

Which distant year in the future are you expecting the SOX to be WS contenders. I'd like to live long enough to see another championship.
