Against this line up no way his pitch count should be this high though.

Watch the pitch selection. He was intentionally avoiding the breaking ball. He needs the slider to be good to be effective. He has two pitches that have the same movement with the 2 seam and the change. You can get through the lineup one time with that, but you have to change the eye level and you have to offer something that counters the break of the pitches you are using. Because he couldn't trust the breaking ball, he was living fastball up and change down, but he doesn't have the cheese to put guys away up.

Virtually 90% of MLB starters feature pitch counts too high and innings per start too short because the get no easy outs on weak contact and no swing and miss in the strike zone. This is not a Rick problem as much as it is an MLB problem.

Sometimes his command is off and he will double his pitch count in an inning. He usually delivers us 6 innings plus though so I’m usually happy with his performance. The yankee game was a s*** show though. But games like that happen. Ask Sale. He’s been brutal his last 3 starts.

When he is rolling all his pitches are working for him and that is what makes him so dangerous especially in his CY YOUNG year. Trouble is. He gets inside his own head when is breaking ball or slider isn’t working. Seems once one of his pitches isn’t working he goes to hell with everything. Like the Yanks game.

Not this year. He's averaging 5.5 innings per start

2nd swing and miss in the zone for Zimerman at pitch 57 v sandy and a third to Sandy to get him out.

The Yanks game, everything leaked middle. His 2 seamer didn't break, his change sat middle and his slider spun. Today, he is getting good movement on the change, the Tigers cannot seem to square up the 2 seamer, but he is still hit or miss with the slider. And when he is amiss with the slider, he is "slinging it" and getting around the ball which creates the cement mixer slider that has some lateral movement but no depth. ie, a homerball

I have no idea why Gardenhire is sticking with him. Then again, Ron is a horrendous manager

Not playing for anything. Need innings out their investment.

Re/MARCO----how do you spell Clair Vyant?

Secpnf base (Cora was listening) and 2 hits right of "the bat"

Zims got 1 trick and it's not a strike

I remember the old RBI baseball on Nintendo. When you put a position player in to pitch, all of his selections were "FAT". That is all Zim has

He’s had a couple starts where he was done after the first inning. Yanks and I think he had a couple others that really brought him down. But he’s usually a pitcher that gets you 6 or 7 innings and maybe gives up 3 runs in that game. Far better than a lot of 3rd and 4th guys get you. With this offense last year that got us a lot of wins. This year with our bullpen. Not so much.
