When Dewey first came up at the end of '72 I think, we still had Reggie Smith, Tommy Harper, Ben Olgivie and Yaz had to play first base. It was hard to make an impression with those guys out there.

I fondly remember all of those guys.

One time, early in a game, I was sitting beside the visitor's bullpen watching the game. Reggie Smith was in right field.

He was bent over looking toward the plate. I remember seeing his ass and muscular legs ( no homo ) and his afro sticking out from his cap.

I also saw a Dilinger sized schlong dressed down his right leg.

I have not spoken about this until now.

Lol. The things you see and remember!

And Rick Miller too. He was the best of them all. He just couldn't hit enough to play everyday on those clubs.

Miller was good.

How about the pride of Danbury, Ct.?

Joe LaHoud!!!!!!:P

He held the bat like Yaz and one time he hit 3 Homers in a game.

He told a funny story about eating dinner with Yaz. He used to love eating with Yaz when he took the collar. Yaz would order chicken, steak and pork chops and then he would just pick at one of them because he would be so upset about his hitting. LaHoud didn't make much money and like to pocket his meal money. He would just order a salad and then feast on everything that Yaz didn't eat.

Lol. Never heard that story.

Yeah, that stance was a perfect copy of Yaz's. Too bad he could not hit like Yaz.

Help me here, please? I' trying to remember a guy the Sox brought up after he had been in the minors for way too long. His first at bat in the majors he got beaned. Who was that? I think that he had an ethnic ( Italian ? ) name.

Do you remember an approximate year? I remember Doug Griffin getting a terrible beaning from Nolan Ryan and he was never the same. He definitely wasn't Italian, so you are probably thinking of someone else.

Lol.

I just wonder if anyone else even remembers Jose. Lol.

Oh boy! The great thing about it was that Tartabull didn't really have much of an arm. That play is on instant replay in my mind. Didn't it happen yesterday.

Griffin was another one who had just started to blossom. I was sick when he got plunked. Never the same.

The 1975 outfield of Rice, Lynn, and Evans still ranks the highest in my book. An outstanding combination of hitting and fielding. They are very hard to top.

So sweet

You got me you old fart!:P

I think that it is a club that being a member of we fondly share. The memories of watching some of these kids play today will be talked about the same way we talk about our past favorites. They just play the game the right way. As an aside here I have to tell you that I really want to see Swihart get it done and stick out there in left.

Yeah, I think everyone knows how I feel about that.

Wow! Good memory. I thought I could remember everyone from that era, but you got me on him. My next guess was going to be Mike Fiore.

Lol. It suddenly came to me!!!

You know, he was a very forgettable player other than his funky name and having been hit in the f***ing gourd in his 1st MLB at bat! And after having such a long minor league career.
