Wonder who will close tonight and if Farrell will decide that this is a night when he needs to preserve Ueh.

I mentioned in another thread (and damned if I can remember which) that I was not impressed with Ueh as Closer. That was a poor choice of words and I want to correct that here. I have been impressed but I am just not at this point sold on Ueh as Closer. He would have had me if he had come into that Toronto game and gotten through that 9th inning unscathed. That to me was a big opportunity for him cause he had not to that point faced the meat of any order in a close opportunity. For me, not being able to close the show in that game, combined with the need to protect him is why I am not at this point sold. Clearly he will get more opportunities though and I will either see enough to be "sold" on Ueh as Closer or not. But I am impressed more I guess with his total body of work so far this year than just what he has done as a Closer.

Since being named the Red Sox closer, Uehara has a 16.2 K/9, and a 0.40 WHIP. He gave up exactly one run, when he had to face the meat of the Jays order, throwing one bad pitch to a top 5 hitter in baseball who just got hot. Oh, and that was his 4th save opportunity in 5 days. Uehara is the f***ing man.

Lester only gave up 1 though and 1st innings have not been great for him. I would be surprised if that one run decides this game.

Volquez has a 6.23 ERA outside of San Diego. I'd bet the Sox get back into this game quickly.

Jeez NESN can you just keep this s*** away from actual game activity. God I hate the way NESN just sucks away so much time for this crap.

Volquez has made some terrific pitches so far. Has not been credited in some cases but terrific pitches none the less.

Conversely, Lester is still making some bad pitches. Lately there seems no middle ground with him. He is either trying to be right on the edge of the edge of the black or the thing is right down Main St.

After a 30+ pitch first inning, its good to see Lester only around the 60s in the 4th. Hopefully he can get through the 7th tonight.

If Lester is still cruising, I bet Farrell pulls him anyway here. Might as well give him a confidence bump.

What's the scouting report on Snyder? The guy has looked exceptional defensively at 3B. He's had some good games, but Middlebrooks looks like he may push him out after an 8 rbi game tonight.

Lester really did settle after the 1st inning. Has pitched well now two games in a row. Thought he was headed for trouble the way some of those pitches were located. But he has done well.
