All of his pitches are going to the very edges of the strikezone or outside. He's putting a good deal of effort into avoiding meatballs. A lineup with more patience might do a bit more damage to him, but Toronto is swinging away.

This team is failing hard with RISP.

It's quite impressive, really. Not sure if it is bad luck to start the season or what. They struggled with this last year. I think at one point in last nights game the two teams were a combined 2-24 w/RISP.

Annnd way to go Ells! Speedster!

Damn. Why'd they run on contact?
We have to get used to that. Farrell and the third base coach will send a lot of runners to their deaths on the base paths when it just doesn't make sense. They go against the book a lot.

Happ is beating us so far with that s*** FB...that is a disappointment. It is flat and lifeless even at 94...no movement. Should be meat.

I know little about how to pitch so how does one get a lot of movement on a fastball? is it just in a way of holding the ball or delivery or what?

I don't remember Lackey looking this sharp ever in 2010.

Edit 2011

I'm sure he had three scoreless innings at some point.

Well the Sox are being patient in one way but not as yet taking advantage. They should just take the ball back the way it comes in. He has surprised some of the RH hitters throwing that turkey on the inner half and beaten them throwing it on the outer third. He has moved the ball around. I will give him that. But the Sox are seeing flat FB's up and they are just not doing anything with them so far.

He has thrown enough of them that they should be sitting FB and take the outer third pitch to RF and pull the inside pitch. Easier said than done but that thing is flat and up.

Lackey has thrown more effectively in my opinion.
