We'll have to just disagree then.

It's not illegal to be a jerk. It is illegal to fire someone for what they haven't done.

If he was in uniform and violated the description of his duties then he could be lawfully terminated. Yelling something ugly at pro sports player is not worthy of termination.

He will sue the city and win. He will collect a big check at the tax payer's expense.

Most job descriptions at most police dept.s. address code of conduct, representing the department, conduct unbecoming an Officer.... on and off duty. You wear the badge you know how you act off duty can effect your job.

And if you get a public reputation for being racist or something, it will make it difficult to do your job.

There's no point in trying to get through to NC Sox Fan. He supports the cop and I think that is disgusting.

And your entitled to your opinion. No need to get so emotional over it though.

What I'd like to see is an end political correctness. Peralta yelled something stupid and now there is a witch hunt on to hang this guy.

Guess what? Firing Peralta isn't going to end racism. It might make you feel good for a minute, but in the end, what does it change?

Uh...he didn't yell something stupid, he used a racial slur for, according to his boss, the third time. This guy is obviously a racist. Part of being a racist is an inability to judge all people equally upon first meeting under neutral circumstances. Part of being a racist means making inaccurate and offensive judgements about people without facts or interpretation of experience. Since a large part of the job of a police officer is determining the apparent guilt of someone possibly involved in a criminal activity, or assessing danger in society at a split second notice, impartial behavior is important. So what does it change? It takes one more person out of uniform who is personally incapable of being objective during the commission of his duties. Yeah, there are others, but if I have a chance to beat a rapist to death with a chunk of cinder block, I'm not going to let it pass just because it 'won't end rape'. Half the problems in civilized society could be solved if everyone actually did s*** instead of shrugging and saying "what is one person to do?".

(Actually, come to think of it, most of our problems could also be solved by beating people to death with chunks of concrete...)
