I wonder how much of a parallel there is between what CC went through last year and what Albert is going through this year. You may well be right Wyo. Teams just throw money at these guys expecting they are going to play as they are paid and they might be way better served letting these monster deals just go by. What the hell are the Angels really going to do at this point. Does anybody here think they are going to turn it around to such a degree that they can compete with the Rangers? I don't think so.

If Albert does not play like Superman it will cripple that club for years. If CC does not produce, Lackey I count as a lost cause and A Gonz only hits singles in the first inning, I have a hard time seeing us recovering for years.

is it football season yet??

By the way. Since last September, the Patriots have won more home games (9) than the Red Sox (8).

Agreed, football season please.

Red Sox need to assassinate CC free up money and buy a pitcher or two.

You know I would grade him a C to a D so far, but I can't see any manager making a difference.

The system of FA especially at the top is really based on the notion that these great ballplayers are just going to move to their new teams and pick right up where they left off.

There is no question that Albert is a great ballplayer. I would hate to find out that he is a paper tiger caught up in the steroid thing. I don't think that is the issue just like it is not the issue for CC. But the assumption that they are just going to move to their new teams, new leagues, new stadiums and just be fine appears to be the fly in the ointment.

Maybe they will and maybe they won't. If things don't work out with a player on one of these monster deals boy the team is on the hook for a ton of money.

I think we are going to see a shake up either after this game or after this series...I really do. I don't see the Sox just glibly going about there business. I could be wrong.

It is not an issue of the season being a bust either...to early for that. I think they have to change the way they are playing. They certainly don't appear to me to be a team that can hit some singles, hit some doubles hit a few home runs and win games. Gonna' have to change to some extent the way this team generates runs and probably need to play better defense, I think. Not sure where better pitching can come from part way through a season like this so I think they will try to do something about other elements of the game.

Can't blame the Angels. They got a TV windfall from Fox, and spent it--rather than pay taxes on it. They just may have spent it on the wrong guy--Pujols--who may be in decline. If so, this mistake is CC times 2.

One of these days, Henry will wake up and say, "I got rid of Epstein, and took away the money. But my front office still sucks." Well, didn't Epstein hire those guys?

Punto ?

I'd rather give the AB to Middlebrooks , someone who actually has a chance to be a superstar

Maybe they are worried Middlebrooks will hit too well, and then they'll have Youks to contend with in a week or two. Don't put it past that front office.

The Sox just aren't that good right now: mediocre pitching, and not enough depth to overcome injuries to key players like Ells, Youks and CC. Bailey, too.

I guess what I was thinkin' and did not express well enough in that post is that while you could just spend it all on one guy maybe spending it on three guys or four really "good" ballplayers spreads the risk...doesn't have the marketing juice of doing the one big signing but look at where the Angles are now. Albert is being booed. So, so much for the marketing sizzle and they are not playing good baseball either.

Well this is coming to a merciful close. Would love to be a fly on the wall in that Sox clubhouse after this one.
