If you feel like it go back and watch the replay of yesterday's game. Valentine is suited up but I'm pretty sure he didn't take the hill. Our bullpen thinks they are pitching slow-pitch softball and are giving up runs like they're going out of style. Aside from players accepting some of the blame, the front office moves are next in line for what they didn't do after the departures of Francona and Epstien.

It isn't. Is he the one pitching, and giving up 7 runs an inning? He pulled Felix yesterday, because he was looking tired. It isn't his fault that the bullpen can't hold an 8 run lead. Stop blaming managers for crappy players. If he makes a mistake, like he did with Bard that other game. Then, yes, blame him for it. But, blaming someone who trusted his bullpen not to blow a huge lead in three innings is being just as stupid and ignorant as Rays fans.

I wouldn't blame V for where they are right now, but I do blame him for the needless loss yesterday. He took Doubront out too soon.

 

As I said in another thread, Nolan Ryan wants his starters to do deep into games--complete games if possible. If V is in Texas, he doesn't take out Doubront. There are good reasons why the Red Sox pitching has sucked the past couple of years. Look no further.

Everyone has their version of how keeping a strict pitch count favors starters or hinders starters potential to stretch the games out by going deeper. Nolan Ryan has expressed how he wants his pitchers to go back to old school pitching and I like what he is getting at. However some pitching staffs have pitchers where they are lucky to make it through 6 innings and at the same time, a lot of pitchers know that and either ones with questionable arms or they lack confidence in their ability to push the limits.
