They've only done a handful of positions so far, but Middlebrooks made it to #6 on their list of 3rd base prospects, and Bogaerts made the #10 spot at shortstop. It will be interesting to see how many (if any) other Sox prospects will make their positions top 10 lists.

Lavarnway was ranked as #8 for catchers.

As a sixth-round pick out of a school like Yale, the expectations might not be all that high, and a player will have to prove himself at every level. Lavarnway has done just that, especially with the bat. He hit 32 homers across two levels and made his big league debut in 2011, bringing his career slugging percentage up to .521. While Lavarnway's power has always been his calling card, he's turned himself into a decent backstop as well. Lavarnway is ready for a big league opportunity with the bat, but with Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Kelly Shoppach in Boston, it might not come right away, so he'll likely go back to Triple-A to work on his defense. If MLB.com is fine with his defense, how is Lavarnway only #8? I read a report earlier this week that mentioned that teams asking about Lavarnway's status were told "not to bother" by the Red Sox.

Woah, now here is a real surprise. Oscar Tejada was ranked #4 at a national level:

Tejeda generated some excitement in Boston's Minor League system with a big 2010 season -- his first as a second baseman. Things didn't go as well when he moved up to Double-A, as he struggled with the advanced pitching and his aggressiveness at the plate didn't work in his favor. Tejeda is young enough to turn it around and has the raw tools to be a good hitter with some power. He's still learning the nuances of second base and will continue to do so, even if he has to repeat the level at age 22.

Thanks for posting the rankings for Lavarnway and Tejeda. I just read them myself and I'm pretty happy to see both of those guys make their respective Top 10 lists. There really is a lot of nice young talent coming up for the Sox.
