V-Mart likely out for 2012 with torn ACL

Catcher/designated hitter Victor Martinez suffered a torn ACL in his left knee during his off-season conditioning last week, according to the Tigers. Surgery is anticipated, which the Tigers say would cost Martinez the 2012 season.

The Tigers are holding a conference call in about a half hour, at which point we should hear about their plans to replace Martinez after the unfortunate injury.

Horrible news for the man and the Tigers. As well as the Yankees cause they'll have some competition in the DH role now.

This comes way too late for David Ortiz.

They have several DH options they can pick up, they're even considering bringing back Matsui or Damon.

Manny?

I don't think the Yankees want a washed up player who is about to turn 40, banned for 50 games, ped user, wife beater, along with the whole "Manny being Manny" scenario.

Platooning Jones and Matsui would probably be a better fit.

I meant Manny for the Tigers not the Yanks.

Always hate to see sports stars get injured, but better someone else than us. So glad CC's surgery is much more minor. He never seemed to go through any injuries with the Rays!

AL Central just got a whole lot tighter!!
