Sources: Celtics nearing a deal for ex-Hornets F David West

West is a nice player. One of the top scoring PFs. The question is whether he is still a nice player after his ACL?

The other question is they don't have a center since O'Neal is going to NO in the sign and trade deal.

They have Wilcox and some kid whose last name begins in S. That won't cut it, Danny.

West sucks. His only means of scoring is knocking down 18 footers. He can't defend. Two years ago he only got 7.4 RPG in 36.4 MPG, and only did slightly better than that last season. That's basically the rebounding rate Jermaine O'Neal was going at last year. Not good.

PFs who can't get rebounds are really frustrating, I'm not for this trade at all.

At least he scores I guess, just not really good enough IMO.

Hes still better than O'neil....who would have missed half the season anyway with injuries.

Jermaine O'Neal can actually play low post defense. West cannot do that or rebound, and is going to be dead weight in a year once the big 3 are completely done (if that's even a year away). Hell even an injured O'Neal is better than Glen Davis taken to the next extreme.

Latest is this is on hold. The CP3 to the Lakers deal is off for good. Ideally, this West thing would get scrapped, and the Celtics would trade Rondo + whatever for Paul. If he doesn't re-sign, oh well. We were going to be terrible anyway once the big 3 sunk. At least this way we wouldn't have Rondo's dead weight contract and plummeting stock making us just good enough to get the #9 pick every year. If Paul does re-sign, great. You have a star, the worst of the rebuilding is already over, and the Celtics have the resources to surround Paul with more than New Orleans could.

I like that idea to get CP3 a lot. He's been my second favorite player after KG since he came into the league.

KG's still my favorite athlete of all time though.

Ugh, it's because the Celtics are so poorly run now. They invested their everything into the big three, three aging dudes, and never really had a backup plan for when they would decline and such.

Now they're just... I dunno, it's really frustrating, I've grown to love this team too. Why do all my teams suck!!!

I've been braced for this since they won the championship. It was clear since then that they wouldn't have the parts to reload when the crash came. In fact that was the whole point, otherwise the young high ceiling assets they lost in that deal would hurt more.

These Celtics were always a one-run-and-done operation. Ainge made that move because he had no problem with that.

Hallelujah.

That was a close one.

I agree, I didn't really see a way that West was needed for the Celtics. Do they have Jermaine O'Neal still since it backed out?
