Sitting here watching interview with Selig. He seems pretty against using much more instant replay. I personally would like to see more- here's why;

I think it could actualy speed up the game. I guess I would like to see instant replay replace the phony, pointless and time consuming manager / umpire showdowns. It's been 100 plus years, we know they are not going to change the umps mind. I hate telling my kids that they need to respect authority, from umpires to teachers to policemen - then have them watch a grown man getting paid to be professional yelling because they disagreed with the authority over the location of a baseball.

I think it would be cool to give the manager two calls a game they can have reviewed, and don't allow them to run out and "converse" with the umpires. Just give a manager a couple opportunities to have a play reviewed- five minutes later and the call is right. Maybe even penalize them if the review does not go their way (similar to the NFL)- that could maybe add some more strategy to the game.

What are your thoughts.

I would not want balls / strike calls made by an umpire being reviewed because it would take to long. I would however be in favor initially of using technology to determine balls / strike calls in the first place. Why wouldn't I want to watch a game with 100% accurate ball / strike calls?

I'm against adding stuff from one sport to another. Originality and all. Not everything has to resemble Football for god's sake.

There needs to be more instant replays however in all key moments, not just homeruns. For example, you are pitching a perfect game and the umpire screws up and calls some dude at first safe when it was too ovbious he was out. (Shout out to Armando Galarraga) We all know you have one perfect game under your belt. Unnofocially.

I think balls and strikes should be gathered through technology, the other umpires still probably need to be there for the time being.

Instant Replay should be there for every argued call, with another umpire being somewhere to review the footage. If it starts getting too extensive and annoying, maybe put in a rule for a certain amount of times you can do it.

Also, add in salary caps. Not like any of this will ever happen, but I wish baseball learned that they need to get more up with the times, if you put all these things in it would still be the same game started in the 1870s, just less annoying and more honest.

I wish they had had it tonight in game 3 of the WS when Napoli obviously tagged Holliday out at first for a DP top of 4th. Inning changing call there and pretty fk'n bad.

I really don't know why the 1st base ump was where he was on that play either. Why he felt compelled to drift over that far is beyond me as he did not improve his position for any kind of a play you could think of at 1st base.

You could tell the ump had no clue what had actually happened on the play as at the end he was pointing to the bag as if the play revolved around whether or not the runner had beaten Napoli to the bag. The ump missed the actual play entirely as the play had nothing to do with whether Napoli's foot was on the bag or whether the runner had beaten Napoli to the bag.

I hate the fact that there is currently nothing anybody can do about a play that is blown that badly.

Rangers have just scored 3 runs and should now be ahead instead of behind.

No doubt. And I really appreciate the brevity of your post. Because of it's reasonable length I actually read it. Thanks.

Its an Ump thing.

They instinctively look down for the feet and base.

I agree though. He completely missed the entire play.

Now, with that said, Kinsler made a ridiculously high throw. That led to the whole shenanigans. Its a 50/50 deal.
