We all remember Youk giving Ellsbury grief last year for what he perceived as a lack of toughness in dealing with his injuries....

Accounts coming out now say Ellsbury keeps to himself...clearly Youk is more "One of the boys"....

Have we reached a point where, in order to hold on to Ellsbury, we ship Youk outta here?

Or am I making too much of a soap opera out of this?

Youk is only under contract through next year, with an option for 2013.

Ellsbury is under club control through 2013.

I would be surprised if they tried to keep Youk past 2012 (I don't think they'll exercise his option), and I'd be even more surprised if they signed him to another deal.

Basically, I don't see this as being an issue because of the timing of their contracts.

I think if we have a thread for each s*** storm we're all going to be covered in s***.

Ultimately all of these issues come down to some sort of disagreement, what the team is going to do about it, and the tangible decisions the team will make in the 2011-2012 offseason.

Overblown--like everything else "clubhouse" that has come out lately.

Youks and Ells are at the core of this ballclub, along with Pedey.

No sense in throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

Youks played hurt this year. Otherwise, he is one of the top hitters in baseball.

Same goes with Beckett, who had a great year except for September--when everybody except Ells

and Pedey sucked.

Beckett and Youks are two keepers.

Besides that one quote-- from a year and a half ago-- what evidence is there that Ellsbury and Youkilis don't get along?

Youk isn't the core of anything.

Yeah--he's part of the core. Their cleanup hitter--and the only RHD power bat they have left.

Check his stats. One of the top offensive players in baseball--and an all-star defensively at 1B.

Youks problem is stupid Theo had to satisfy his love affair with AdGon--and kicked Youks off 1B.

Youks has been moved a couple of times position-wise the last few years, and hasn't bitched about it. 3B to 1B to 3B.

This year, he played hurt and didn't bitch about it.

Last year, the Globe and everybody else were bitching about Ellsbury and his "mysterious" injury.

This year, Ells shining and Youks' hurting, one of their writers goes after Youks --for last years' old laundry. BS.

You got it.

Youks played hurt this year, and his stats suffered. He's a team guy.

Ells obviously was hurting last year--and everybody pissed on him--unfairly.

Including the media.

Let's face it, Youkilis has been a first class ******* from day one, but he's been tolerated because he's been a) productive, and B) well, our *******. But he's no longer able to produce the way he once did (hell he can't even stay on the field anymore) and to date, nobody's denying all these reports that he was certainly one of the problems in the clubhouse this year. I have no doubt they're gonna look long and hard at trying to move him. But with his physical problems, rapidly deteriorating skills, big mouth, AND, the fact that he's coming off surgery, they may have a very hard time finding someone to give them any kind of value for him---in which case, we're stuck with him. Even still, if that turns out to be the case, bet your bottom dollar that he'll be back having been told, unequivocally, to keep his dumb-assed, festering gob shut.

If it really was his relationship with Youk, not saying that it is, that was keeping Ells from wanting to come back, I say he goes but I think this is just more s*** getting overblown than an actual issue.

Youk was the only Red Sox player who bothered to give me and two of my friends autographs during spring training a few years back when we had camped out at the edge of the players' parking lot in Ft. Myers well before the breakfast hours. He pulled over, opened his windows, his girlfriend Enza did the same, and we chatted with them for a couple of minutes while he took the time to sign 4 baseballs for us. Didn't seem like an ******* to me at all. I think we have to take all these personality accusations with a grain of salt. Can you imagine if someone camped out in your office interviewing you and your colleagues for 8 months of the year, analyzing your actions, interactions, relationships and squabbles? Jesus, Mary, I'd look like the biggest bitch on the face of the planet.

Youk will stick around unless they can deal him and get starting top of the line pitching in return, which will only happen if they re-sign Papi at DH. Ellsbury will never re-sign with the Sox after 2013 since Boras is his agent. Unless under the Cherington administration the approach with signing free agents changes drastically, and the Sox start valuing their departing free agents more than they have during the Theo years. So yeah, theoretically, signing Ells could happen. But it won't have a thing to do with his and Youk's relationship. I mean, come on already. Right?

Youk isn't the core of anything.

From 2008-2010 Youk hit 75 homers and had a 147 OPS+ while being one of the best defensive 1B in the league, I might remind you. Whether or not he plays the field again isn't the issue, his offensive numbers are ridiculous, he's one of the better hitters in the league.

He's definitely part of the core of this team. Even in his s***** 2011, he was still producing a 123 OPS+.

I think you make a good point.. Youk thinks he's the franchise.. He has issues with anyone who out hits him. I say trade Youk asap......... He's a whiner.

Ells stays!

The Youk Ellsbury thing is a side show. Ellsbury does not like the Sox Med Staff and for good reason and I think Ells is more off put by the general level of stupidity that he has been exposed to here from being moved to LF to the Med Staff screw up. I don't think Ells liked Youk barking at him for going outside for rehab but the ice cream and whip cream where already there. Youk is not more than a half cherry at most.

It really does not matter. Ells will get all the way to the FA market, there is nowhere to go with the Crawford contract and the Sox are not going to spend $40M on two outfield positions.

Youks and Ells are two of the best players on the Red Sox.

They will have to get along, because neither is going anywhere. Beckett, too.

He plays hurt because he gets hurt every damn year. The injuries the past 3 season are amounting up big time. I think management needs to look long and hard at what they can get for him in the trade market.

I just wish we had opted for moving Youk to 1st base where combined with a % of the DH duties it would be much easier to keep him in the lineup.

So you want to get rid of Crawford? You'll have to eat $15 mil a season to deal him right now. Is it worth it to deal Crawford and $90 million for nothing? No, you gotta keep Crawford, and you kinda have to. If he plays up to his potential, then he's still overpaid, but the sox wont want to move him. If he plays like 2011 again, he'll be worthless again.

Ellsbury is making it to FA, and if somehow he continues to have 25-25 to 30-30 seasons, he's going to outearn Crawford by a lot. Crawford set the market for a 5 tool OFers in their prime. Ellsbury is going to wreck the market. He's gonna get CC money (7yrs $161 mil) on the market.
