Bill Mueller won a batting title out of the 7 hoel for the Red Sox. They pushed the ALCS to seven games that year. OVer the course of a season you get what' date=' like 50 less plate appearances in the #7 hole? I'd rather have been hitters like Pedroia, Youkilis or Gonzalez In the 2,3,4 hole. 1st or 5th? Would work, I actually liked him batting leadoff, but Crawford isn't a middle of the order hitter on this team.[/quote']

Well I've made my case about why Crawford in the 2 hole would be ideal because of the way Dustin Pedroia hits, so that's why I'm going to stick to my opinion. I really think that Gonzo will do better in the 4 slot and Pedey will drive in an ungodly amount of runs from the 3 hole with Ells and Craw in front of him

Crawford

Youkilis

Gonzalez

Pedroia

Saltamachia

Ellsbury

Crawford hitting ahead of Youkilis would be perfect. A guy who works the count and makes the pitcher work. With Crawford on the bases, the pticher would go nuts.

All of Pedroias wall ball doubles would turn into wall ball singles when Gonzo was on 1st base because he can't make it to 3rd. You have to play into our hitters strengths. Lowrie is a perfect candidate to split up Drew and Ortiz in the 6-7-8 slots because of how well he hits LHP.

line up line up line up. We have won the last 8 of 9. I think the line up is good as it is. Crawford should bat 7th. thats it.

Pregame notes from Camden Yards

BALTIMORE - Jason Varitek was catching Clay Buchholz tonight and will catch Josh Beckett tomorrow. A lot of catching for the supposed Sox "backup" catcher so we ask has there been a change in the depth chart?

Nobody is calling it that.

Terry Francona reminded all of us in the media that he has said all along that Varitek would catch more than the average backup. Lately, he might be catching more than the average starter.

Buchholz has been Saltalamacchia's duty.

But Buchholz is 1-2 with a 5.31 ERA entering tonight's game. It appears the Sox want to get Buchholz straightened out. He allowed six homers in four starts, four of them coming vs. Texas back on April 3rd.

Francona said that Varitek "has been catching so well" and that he felt batting righthanded against rookie southpaw Zach Britton is "where he should play." Varitek is hitting .074 (2-for-27) and both hits have come off lefthanded pitchers.

When asked how he felt Salty had caught Buchholz, he said "pretty good." He also mentioned Buchholz shaking off Salty but that "Buck shakes everyone off."

On Sunday, John Lackey praised Salty's work behind the plate in a 7-0 win over the Angels in which he pitched eight scoreless innings.

It seems now that the Sox bats are starting to get hot, carrying Varitek's lack of offense isn't as big of an issue.

It would appear that Camden Yards would be another good ballpark for Adrian Gonzalez. The most stunning aspect of Gonzalez' early tenure with the Sox is that he has one home run in his first 85 at-bats. Gonzalez is hitting .282 with 12 homers so there's likely no need for concern.

I am being offered odds of 5/7 for the sox to win tonight and I fancy a fllutter in a double with Liverpool this weekend. Do those odds represent value in your opinion when you consider your game tonight?

Thanks

I think that they are concerned that the kid is falling apart and they want to limit his exposure. It was clear to me the other night in Anaheim that the team strategy was to not have him throw the ball in the early innings. On two different occasions, fielders didn't cover the base on steals. He doesn't know what to do when there is a first and third situation. He let's guys score from second base on passed balls. The coaching staff and probably the pitchers too don't want him out there. Once word gets around the league about how bad he really is, the big lumberjacks and fat catchers will run at will on him.

I don't care if Crawfish bats 3rd or 8th or 17th. Just win this s*** and make Buck cry. But whatever you do, don't pull his finger...

Photographer: Alright Buck. I think we're all done here.

Buck Showalter: You sure? That's it?

Photographer: Yup. Unless you have anything else?

Buck Showalter: OH. MY. GOD! I have the BEST idea. Get this. Ok. I'm going to get like this really stern look on my face right? Ok. And then I'm going to point at the camera, like Uncle Sam.

Photographer: Wait. Seriously? <_>

Buck Showalter: Just take the picture, dickhead. What? You think you're smarter than me? You can take photos because you have a camera, and that makes you smarter?!? Just take the picture.

Buck see's the photo.

Buck Showalter: My dear God. That's going on the mantle. I look like a straight up badass. Hey guys. Watch this. Watch what I say in Mens Journal now. I'm such a badass.

Oh boy, we are hot and the Orioles are struggling and the guy pitching is not only LEft Handed but never faced the Red Sox. This is a recipe for us to get shut the f*** down. I hope not.
