All of this morning's articles on last night's epic loss include quotes from Tito and Beckett about how he isn't able to throw his fastball for strikes lately, hence his difficulties in his last two starts. At least Beckett is able to own up to it when he just doesn't deliver (unlike Lackey, King of NotOwningUpLand), but is something else going on again here with him? Is he hiding another injury a la 2008 end of the season? As much as I appreciate Beckett's contributions to this team and his prowess as a power pitcher when he's on, I question what's going on with him this year. Last night was about as close as this year's team gets to it being a must win, and Beckett found a way to squander an 8-2 lead. That's not what a so-called ace does.

Seriously, what the hell's going on here?

that's the million dollar question. at his age, he should be in the prime of his career but he hasn't been a consistent pitcher since 2007. thank god we've got lester and buhholz in the rotation

I believe it has something to do with all the injuries he has had recently. Not that he is not recovered from these injuries. But I think each injury(Ab,shoulder, and back) have all taken there toll on his delivery sequence. When he is going good he is extremly smooth to the plate. When he is off, like he has been recently, he gets all little herky jerky, too far over the top of staying back too long. He will find it eventually.

Hes a pompous, arrogant, ignorant overpaid *******. Oh....you meant performance wise? He picks on weak teams, throws at the heads of players on the s***** Guardians and shits his pants and goes in to the fetal position against good teams.

That seems harsh to me. He is pompous and arrogant, but virtually anyone I know who has pitched at some point in their life can imagine the competitiveness and necessary self-assurance of being someone who could throw an easy 95 at 19 years old. When your job is to blow a ball by very talented batters, you might have a chip on your shoulder.

I'm not putting all of my money on Beckett, but I will be okay with him getting the ball in a big game with his career/reputation on the line (i.e., a WS appearance, for instance). There's something wrong with him right now and we've seen it before. I think he should be shut down for a week or two to ensure he's healthy (if he is). The next few weeks will tell if the Sox will be making a run at the wild card or not; if not I see them shutting some players down.

Why not? He has basically shut it down from they day he signed the extension. Whats more than a couple of weeks.

I don't care if he's an *******, or pompous, or mean. I care if he spends more time training than he does at his hunting ranch south of San Antonio this winter. I think the propensity to get injured is related to his training, or lack thereof.
