Rob Bradford of WEEI.com reports the Red Sox are expected to place Mike Lowell on the disabled list to make room on the roster for Thursday's starter Daisuke Matsuzaka.

Matsuzaka is slated to come off the DL and start tonight against the Rockies, so the move should be coming shortly. Lowell pinch-hit Tuesday, but prior to that went nine games without playing and has been the subject of trade rumors. Jun. 24 - 12:35 pm et

Can Theo break the rules any more? Tito already admitted that they put DiceK on the DL even though he wasnt really hurt (heard that on WEEI), they just needed the roster space. Now Lowell, who hasnt had any injuries this season that we know of, is being placed on the DL for god knows what. The players association typically files grievances for this, I have a feeling one is on the way

rumor had it he was gonna be DFAd. Now' date=' he's gonna be on the DL.[/quote']

Just watch him run, and you'll realize that any stay Lowell has on the DL is justified. I don't see Lowell agreeing to going on the DL for no reason either-- He wants to play, and he isn't going to do that by faking a trip to the DL. If he gets DFA-ed, atleast he'll get a chance to play somewhere.

Mikey hit 3 HRs for the PawSox tonight and is batting .471

Move over, Beltre! In all seriousness guys, what do we do? leave him on the bench?

I think that I'd welcome a good righty stick on the bench. It's not worth the money we're paying the guy, but if you have a guy who can possibly give you an advantage, you use it even if you're maybe paying too much.

The team needs RHH off the bench, and Lowell is crushing right now in Triple A. Problem is he will cool right off when he only gets one AB every 5 games

Lowell should be platooning with Papi--and should have been the whole season. That he hasn't is symptomatic of organizational problems with the Red Sox. The FO at times seems to be more concerned with stroking egos than winning games.

So a guy with an .897 OPS should be platooning wi.....oh why the f*** should I even bother...

He has a really valid point. Yes, Ortiz has been good, but this is his line against LHP this year:

.192 BA, .264 OBP, .273 SLG, .536 OPS, 1 HR

Those are clear platoon numbers. There isn't even an argument. Now, Lowell is no guarantee either, but over the course of his career he has been a better hitter against LHP.

It's a good idea, don't knock it.

Thanks for posting that. Those are some pretty ugly numbers. Would not shock me to see him in a real LH RH platoon next year.
