THere are tons of rumors regarding Notre Dame, Texas, the implosion of the Big 12, etc.

I think we're headed toward four 16 team superconferences.

One thing has been settled, however..... College Football is king. It's obvious that basketball and every other sport is an afterthought.

Really? I like college basketball way more than college football. Then again, as far as I'm concerned, it's only a 2 horse race. Hockey, Baseball, Lacrosse etc don't even factor into the equation.

College football is absolutely king. A lot more money to be had. Like I mentioned in another thread, this could mark the end of the NCAA, which is always a good thing.

I agree with you, but I have to believe that most college football programs bring in more money and thus are more important to institutions on a national scale.

For example, take the Big East. I have been saying for MONTHS that the Big East was not being pro active enough in expanding its football product. They have to think football, first. How they could be satisfied with an 8-team league that was barely holding on to its BCS status was beyond me.

Agreed, I can see the formation of four "super conferences" (ACC, Big Ten, SEC, Pac 10) which would eventually break away from the NCAA.

I understand. I wasn't sure what you meant by "king" but after seeing your explanation, I agree with you. College football is the plump tomato in terms of earning potential in college athletics. I was just remarking for entertainment purposes that I prefer college basketball over college football, but then again we're both Big East guys, so it isn't that much of a surprise.

And I agree with See Red that we need to cut this s*** out with moving teams around in conferences.

ESPN report BIG 12 dead, TX & A&M moving to Pac 10, UT & A&M Meet tomorrow. Waiting for confirmation, denial, something from A&M.

Friend sent me this from a TV station out of Texas. Obviously, take with a grain of salt for now.

I don't think it needs to stop, though. I like the four super-conferences eventually splitting from the NCAA idea. Would lead to the end of the BCS. Not sure how that'd be a bad thing.

A whole boatload of teams going to the Pac 10, reportedly. A&M, Texas, Colorado, Oklahoma amongst them. I'd say look for Notre Dame to join the Big Ten -- they have to for survivals sake.

This is actually pretty cool to see this all happening.

By the way, how about in Conference games USC vs. Texas or Oklahoma vs. Oregon? This s***'s going to be awesome!

The biggest problem with the BCS outside of the fact that it doesn't handle 3 or more undefeated teams well, IMO, has been that it gives precedence to crummy conference winners over non-BCS conference teams that deserve a shot. This doesn't fix that. Programs like Boise St, Utah, BYU, etc are still out in the dark with this big realignment.

Sure, this might be a step in the right direction, but it doesn't come close to fixing anything.

You're right. We'll have to see how this all plays out and who all ends up where.

There should be more strict ideas on what a D1 team is. How can you be D1, when you have absolutely no shot at winning anything on 150 of the 220 teams? How bout you break up the major conferences and the lesser conferences. Take the solid, bowl contending teams and arrange them by region, including some of the lesser division powerhouses (like Boise). Then the rest of the suck be re-aligned into a lesser divison. Still D1, but not really. And have 5 yr re-evaluations, allowing for teams to slip into and out of the major conferences. It might be unfair for a singular season, but it would require that a program proves its worth over 5 yrs to be considered for a prime time shot. Kinda like a D2 team moving up to D1.

I hope Kansas and Kansas State joins the SEC.

If Nebraska is gone to Big Ten and so is Notre Dame & Texas contingent goes to the Pac 10, the Big East better approach Kansas & Kansas St fast.

PS. Here's a new rumor: WFNI Indianapolis is reporting that along with Nebraska, that Notre Dame, Syracuse, Rutgers & Maryland are Big Ten bound

Who is the SEC looking to add in all of this? I'd rather see Texas, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma end up there instead of the Pac Ten, personally.

Don't look at the SEC to add any Big 12 schools.

SEC will probably add Miami and FSU. Possibly Clemson, GT, VT, WVU, etc.

VT probably on the unlikely side there as I doubt the state government would allow them to add VT and not UVA, and I seriously doubt UVA would go to the SEC simply due to the academics. UVA is a pretentiously prestigious Univeristy that would want no part of that.

But hot damn would the SEC drool at the aspect of bringing UVA in for all sports. One of the best schools in the nation all around athletically.

It could get interesting. It might even be a matter of who raids the Big East first, the ACC or SEC.

All speculation at this point but it's incredibly exciting.

Geographically I think the Texas schools and OU would be a better fit in the SEC than the PAC 10, but who knows where they will actually end up. I wish the SEC would just stay the freaking same though. Most likely I think we end up adding 4 more to make up a 16 team super conference which has already been mentioned. Georgia Tech was a former member back in the old days. Florida State said they'd join back about 20 years ago under the stipulation that they could make out their own football conference schedule every year, which basically meant they didn't want to really join.

The news is Oklahoma wants to join the SEC

Who wouldn't want to join the SEC? The SEC has the biggest tv contracts, gets the most attention, and churns out the best teams every year... all of these factors which obviously mean it's going to have the most money too.

Disagree with you here. Virginia has a phenomenal baseball program, but they haven't been relevant in football or basketball in quite a few years now. Unless you're counting lacrosse or something, which isn't really on the SEC's radar.

It is exciting, but I really just wish the conferences would've stayed the same. Maybe when everything is worked out on down the line I'll like it better than before, but for now I'm not a huge fan of all this moving around. Some of it makes zero sense geographically, although I know it's truly all about money anyway.
