NEW YORK (AP) -- Dave Roberts, whose stolen base for Boston in the 2004 playoffs sparked the Red Sox to an elusive World Series championship, is being treated for Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Roberts was diagnosed in mid-March and he says the cancer was detected early. He says the prognosis is "good." He has undergone two rounds of chemotherapy so far.

My heart sank when I read this headline. All the best on a speedy, quick recovery for one of the most unlikely heroes in Red Sox history.

With the signature play of the 2004 crown, he should never have to buy a meal in this town.

Good luck to him. We're all pulling for his full recovery.

Plus he is one the nice guys in sport.

They caught it early so maybe he'll be OK.

Hodgkin's lymphoma is typically rather treatable nowadays

Yeah, Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma is a lot more challenging but Lester beat it.

Roberts will be fine. Kick that cancer's ass Dave!

My mom beat non-Hodgkin's. The chemo would kick her ass for a few days, she had to get it intravenously at the hospital. Fortunately, not too many side effects.

My ex-husband did too. Handled the chemo pretty well but when the cancer came back had a stem cell transplant and has been cancer free since 2003!

My mom beat non-Hodgkins as well, although it did do a lot of damage -- not so much because of the cancer itself but because of its location -- it manifested in her head and put pressure on her brain. She's still with us for which we're extremely grateful.

So sorry to hear that Dave has been dealt this blow. I know he will fight this with all the grace and conviction he showed as a player.

Dave, your in my thoughts and prayers as you begin you battle. Speedy recovery to you.
