Time for Ortiz to sit

The time has come to sit David Ortiz, trade him or release him. Certainly there are some kids on the farm who can hit a ball in the air with the bases loaded and no one out...against a division rival. It's time for a "what have you done for me lately" moment with Ortiz.

Maybe tonight's performance will quiet the "knee jerk!" crowd.

 

It's definitely time to explore other options, I agree.

I'd say give it time, like last season, but we can't afford that this season, with the offense we have. I hope he turns it around but if he is still like this in a week bench him.

We can't wait around like last season because this team lacks the offensive fire power to wait around for Ortiz to hit. Lowell needs to get in there, Hermida, or anyone at this point would be more product than Ortiz.

You guys hit the nail on the head. You don't have an offense that can absorb a black hole in the 5 spot. Last yr, you had Youks and Bay killing the ball till Papi heated up. Now, with Bay gone, your lineup needs a presence in the 5 hole. By May 1, you'll see a change

Designated hitter David Ortiz was named the American League Player of the Week after he batted .545 and hit four doubles and two homers and drove in six runs last week.

 

Among the players also considered were two of Ortiz's teammates -- Carl Crawford, who won the same award May 31, and Adrian Gonzalez -- and Anaheim outfielder Bobby Abreu, Detroit first baseman Miguel Cabrera, Kansas City first baseman Eric Hosmer, Texas outfielder Endy Chavez, New York Yankees pitcher Bartolo Colon and Seattle pitcher Jason Vargas.
