Acta is a good choice. Don't hold his Nationals days against him. Remember Tito and Torre both sucked until they got some players to work with. Which Cleveland should provide. Any Guardians fan with half a brain should be psyched for this move.

I've seen Acta manage up close more than any member of this board can say, since he managed both winter leagues and managed a WBC team, the man is a brilliant manager, but i will say he has his problems.

 

Bullpen management is good, lineup construction is good, he's not afraid to sit players who aren't producing, and he can become a media darling, but some in-game decisions can be head-scratchers, (bunts, straight steals, etc) in situations that really make no sense, he's also prone to burning out bullpen arms he likes (like Torre).

You cant dump cy young winners and all your bats THEN blame Eric Wedge for their sudden demise.

2 years ago they were on the cusp of winning it all and 9 months later they sold out.

Acta did what he could in DC and he'll have a similar squad of suck to deal with now.

The Guardians have some up-and- coming talent that could impact as soon as '11.

 

His 2010 will be a cavalcade of suck and he'll have that excuse, but afterward, all bets are off.

I'm not even saying that based on his success with Licey, although it sure does help. He's always been a highly regarded coach with the Expos and Mets (I got to watch him closely with the Mets), he did well with the Dominican team in the WBC, and despite the record he was good in Washington. All the players had good things to say about him after he was fired. He didn't lose his job there because he did a bad job, he was just the scapegoat. I expect him to do very, VERY well with Cleveland.

 

I think any Guardians fan should be thrilled with this hire.
