I don't understand bringing Rodney out for a third inning either. It smacks of pushing your luck.

Think about it. the guy's ERA is higher than 3. Even with issues like fatigue ignored entirely, if you push him 3 innings, statistically you've got a high chance of surrendering one run.

Nice edit.

But give the Sox to Leyland and let's see the results.

Wow what a game. I can't believe how long Leyland let Rodney go, that was a great performance up until the 12th. Unheard of for a closer to go that long.

All in all a great game and a great conclusion to an AL Central race this year.

I'm just glad they had to grind it out all the way to the end. I hope the Twins enjoy their flight and don't get checked into their hotel into late late tonight. Bring 'em on!

I love this matchup. No pure ace for Minnesota' date=' no K pitchers.[/quote']

Yeah, I would love that matchup too if I were a Yankee fan.

Hopefully the Twins have some tricks up their sleeves and can at least make a little noise.

Nice edit.

If you know what I edited, you know why.

But while we're on the subject, both "better than Tito" managers in this game really made some bonehead decisions.

for Gardenhire, taking Kubel out of the game in middle innings, forcing Gomez to take a significant at bat in the bottom of the ninth. For Leyland, obviously the Rodney thing.

Also, I agree with example1. With the talent on that Tigers roster the division should never have been this close.

The "Talent?"

This was an offensively challenged team with a suspect bullpen and a 3-man starting rotation.

Stop it.

And a lot less stress for me.

That's one of the odd things about changing managers. It's easy to talk about kicking a guy out if you start going into a litany of the guy's faults, but when you start talking about finding a replacement, they all seem to have at least as many warts in the long run.

You can't just say "get rid of the guy" because we don't just rid of the manager. We REPLACE him. Meaning that you wind up replacing a sure thing with a wild card. We went through a few years like that in the early 2000's, where each bum was as bad as the last one. that only ended when we got Tito, so I'm reluctant to move on unless it's crystal clear he's totally unfit for duty.

I disagree with your assessment of the team's offensive talent level. this was oen of the better offensive teams in the league last year and the personnel changes weren't that significant from last year to this. There was a whole lot of underperforming players on the team, but the level of talent is a lot higher than the reality we saw on the field.

What.Are.You.Talking.About?

I challenge you to find a post where i have said: "Replace Tito with X"

I have always said: "He's the perfect manager for the Sox, but his in-game decisions are suspect."

The give the Sox to Leyland argument was simply to illustrate the fact that he's making more with less.

Don't put words on my keyboard please.

Right, fair enough. Sorry I brought it up. not really trying to stir crap up here which is why I tried to delete the post in the first place.

They parted with Sheffield, they parted with Renteria, they made Gerald Laird the starting catcher, Magglio's offensive skills eroded, and Guillen was hurt for most of the year and never fully recovered.

What you saw on the field is exactly what the Tigers are on offense: A righty-heavy lineup that can't hit good pitching.

And Inge, one of their better hitters, was hurt for much of the second half.

And Curtis Granderson really underperformed this year.

Placido Polanco did as well.

Don't get me started on the LF platoon of Thames and Raburn.

Ugh.

Stupid twins will go down in 3 in ALDS. With Detroit - there was a chance that the Yanks could have lost.
Why would you want anyone to beat the Yankees? Why wouldn't you be rooting for a Yankees - Red Sox ALCS?

:D:dunno:

P.S Congratulations Twins.

That was last season, Sheff's no longer there, neither is Renteria, and Ordonez hasn't played up to what he's been capable in the past. The Tigers offense sucks, they were 15th runs scored, and had a collective OBP of .331, so how is that not complete crap? The fact that they had an offense last season is completely irrelevant, considering that their personnel may be somewhat similar, but is still significantly less capable from last season.

Oh yeah: GO TWINS!

I don't have a problem. It is pretty clear she is a Twins and Vikings fan.

And that's a problem because?

We have Yankee, Jets and Giants fans of the board.

Because nothing is better than a Yankees - Red Sox ALCS.:)

Yes there is something better.

The Yankees losing to the Twins in the 1st round and providing epic lulz for everyone.

I guess I don't hate the Yanks as much as you.:D

You need to get yourself checked about that.
