Well there's been a lot of debate over the past week about who the Yankees would take, if they would take 10 pitchers, 3 catchers, both Gardner and Guzman, etc. I had just read an article on another board and posted that roster, and decided to post it here as well.

 

I would change one change. You don't need both Guzman and Gardner. I'd rather see Cervelli.

 

Reasoning being is that Molina will catch Burnett, and it would allow the Yankees to DH Posada if they wanted his bat in there instead of Matsui.

 

I really hope they pitch Burnett in game 2. I trust him a ton more than I do Pettitte. Pettitte is s***.

 

With Molina catching Burnett, he is one of the best pitchers in the AL. Look it up.

It seems very likely that they will carry both Gardner and Guzman, which I dont think is a bad idea as it gives you more opportunities to pinch-run late in a close game. But the possibility still very much remains that they will carry Cervelli as well. If that is the case the casualty would be one of the pitchers, as they would probably just go with 10 and keep the depth on the bench.

There also exists the possibility that Gardner starts 1 or 2 games and having Guzman to pinch run late could be pretty sweet.

Lefties BAA against Pettitte this year is .282. Righties is .249.

 

It's also important to consider a couple other things. Burnett has looked sharp down the stretch, while Pettitte, coming off his tired shoulder, has not.

 

Also, Burnett is significantly better at home this year than he is on the road, while Pettitte is significantly better on the road this year than he is at home.

 

Burnett:

 

Home ERA: 3.51

Road ERA: 4.59

 

Pettitte:

 

Home ERA: 4.59

Road ERA: 3.71

 

Not to mention, if Burnett is on (and I understand that is a big if) he has a much better chance to match Verlander than Pettitte does.

 

A few weeks ago I would have said Pettitte, but considering the numbers and what has happened down the stretch, I want Burnett to start games two and five.

Some news today regarding the Yankees.

 

Burnett will start Game 2, and, according to Posada, Molina will catch him. Girardi also said he think Matsui will DH that game.

 

Also, Bruney did make the roster, and was surprised about it. I'm not sure who is further in denial; Bruney, Joba, or Kennedy? Close race.
