After the Sox game' date=' I took a walk around the neighborhood to enjoy the beautiful weather and get some exercise. We passed two couples who were standing and chatting. We said hello to each other. I don't know them. I heard a grunt or a growling like noise after I passed. With that, one of the women said, "what are you growling about." He said: "Red Sox fan." I turned smiled and held up 4 fingers and told him that it was only 4 games in the loss column and that it would probably be 2 games by Friday. We all had a good laugh, but they (Yankee fans) are starting to feel the uncomfortable breath of the Sox breathing down the Yankees' necks.[/quote']

Same here dood.

Lots of Yankee fans feeling the heat.

Dude...it's all about the schedule. The Red Sox have had a run against a dead Tampa, got a gift win by the umpires against the Angels, and beat up a hapless Orioles club. Means nothing.

The Yankees are playing out the string, and hoping nobody gets hurt. A three game sweep by the Red Sox still puts the Sox two games out. One win in three by the Yankees is all it takes.

The truth is, the race doesn't matter. Both teams are in. I'd figure the Red Sox would like to face the Angels in the first round considering their successes against them.

If it's all about the schedule how do you not respect the Red Sox chances to make this a race?

If the Sox take 3 of 4 from KC and the Yanks lose 2 of 3 to LA' date=' we're 2.5 back. That's a very realistic outcome, and makes that series pretty big.[/quote']

How does that cut the lead to 2.5? It cuts the lead to 3.5.

Good call' date=' I thought it was 4 right now for some reason.[/quote']

I expect the scenario you posted to play out though. So, come next Friday, it'll be 3.5 (3 in the loss, 4 in the win).

Oooh you are really feeling the heat with your team going out to LA. It would be a pretty big collapse if we caught you in the last week. It would be a bit shocking. Anyway' date=' rules be damned. I won't call you any names, but I'll be here to gloat all over you if the Sox catch the Yanks next week. You'll get ass-raped on this forum.[/quote']

Fair enough, gloat all you want, but don't get upset if/when I decide to gloat. It may be when we clinch the division, may be when we clinch the pennant, might even wait until we win the whole damn thing. But with your declaration, I will surely be gloating.

I don't think any team has ever (that's right "ever") done that. Feel free to gloat if you win it all, but it will have little effect on me unless you to beat us to get to the Series, and you know that you are terrified to face the Sox in the ALCS. Yankee fans have been very disappointed that the Texas Patsies have fallen from contention for the wild card. They wanted us knocked out so badly to pave their way to the Series with patsies. They are pulling hard for their sister team, the Minnesota Patsies, so they will be guaranteed advancing beyond the first round.

I would rather beat you guys in the ALCS than The Angels, Tigers, Twins, or Rangers. Wouldn't feel as right. We took 6 of the last 7 we played against each other, so while it would surely be a challenge, I'm confident we have the ability to beat you guys in a 7 game set.

I don't care who they beat.

I think he can have an impact on this team in 2010 out of the bullpen. Maybe he needed the Hughes treatment? Regardless, this guy is going to have an impact in the majors eventually, he is too good not to. Whether it be in the pen or the rotation or in another league we will find out

If he has, he should have a long talk with Joba.

I'm much more upset with the things Joba has said than Kennedy, even though they're very similar. Kennedy, for the most part, has never succeeded at the Major League level. However, Joba knows what it is like to succeed at this level, yet he still tries to say he pitches well in his poor starts.

I typically don't care about any of these things, but it just irks me when Joba defends his poor starts by talking about all the things he did well.

They're both kids. Give them some leeway. Joba is gonna be a big key to our future success.

I still think Joba is going to be a good starting pitcher. In terms of leeway, long term, I am. I'm not saying that they should return him to the bullpen. I like him as a starter down the road. In terms of his performance, I'm patient.

However, every single time he pitches poorly, he always talks about how well he did this or how well he did that. Even Girardi made a mention of it last game.

Posted
Do you think his arm is healthy?

I do actually. I think his problem is more mental than anything else. Last yr, he was pumping every pitch at 96-98 as a starter. Thats really close to his max. I think he needs to learn that he has to at least show his big fastball at times rather than run away from it.

Shocker. Rainbows' date=' puppies, and ice cream for the Yankees. All. The. Time.[/quote']

However, Wakefield's retiring, we'll never get JJ Hardy, and the Yankees will butt-rape us in the ALCS.

You need to make some adjustments to the table pronto.

Joba's velocity is really so strange. For instance, if you look at arguably his best start last year 7/25 @ BOS, his average fastball was 95.51 MPH and he topped out at 99.6 MPH. He's nowhere close to that this year. I have absolutely no idea what to make of it.

Jacko, are you trying to say that he is intentionally staying away from it? I don't understand why he would do that.

Uhhh....actually I was following them, as I follow all teams regularly. So don't try to tell me what I was and wasn't doing. I just didn't have a preference, that's all. Of course I was interested. Now that it's pretty clear you guys are headed to the postseason it would be very rewarding to beat you on the way to #27, but it would have also been very rewarding to watch you miss the postseason, that way you could take all the heat we got last year. But like I said I didn't care much either way, all I can really worry about is what MY team is doing. So stop trying to act like you can read my mind grandpa, because you can't.

If that is the case I think a lot of it would have to do with the mental aspect of Joba's game, as Jacko said. The organization has been so strict with drilling into him these limits and their future pans and how they want him to develop properly. I think it might have to do with the fact that he might feel if he throws his hardest fastball consistently he could wear out quicker and be less able to go deep into games....or something along those lines. That's just my guess. But I absolutely agree 100% that his struggles are mental rather than medical.
