Red Sox recall Bowden, activate Baldelli, option Anderson

According to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe, the Red Sox have recalled RHP Michael Bowden from Triple-A Pawtucket.

Bowden had a cup of coffee earlier in the year when he pitched two perfect innings of relief against the Yankees. He's been starting the entire year in Pawtucket since and has seen his stock dip over the last couple months. He'll be available out of the bullpen. The corresponding move is not yet known, but Jason Varitek could be headed to the disabled list.

Red Sox optioned CF Brian Anderson to Triple-A Pawtucket.

Anderson goes to make room for Rocco Baldelli. Anderson had one hit in six at-bats for the BoSox. He'll be back in September as outfield insurance.

Red Sox activated OF Rocco Baldelli from the 15-day disabled list.

Baldelli never really had to go on the disabled list, but the Sox were banged up and needed someone they could rely on to play consecutive days. Baldelli will resume his role playing against left-handers. J.D. Drew's two home runs off a lefty Thursday night might put a wrinkle in Rocco's playing time.

Should be interesting to see what the final move is for Bowden getting called up. I guess it's possible that Varitek goes to the DL, but I don't see why they go with one catcher. Bowden coming up could just be a few days until Wakefield returns.
