I was at the game last night. Kinsler is just off the DL. The Red Sox were buzzing his tower before he got beaned. Is there some kind of grudge at work?

I can only speak to a certain extent since I didn't see it but I'd be shocked if they were intentionally trying to bean him in the head, that's about the biggest no-no in baseball

I have always said that buzzing the tower is part of the game and I wont back off from that. Typically, you need a reason and from a guy who has no control to start with, I'd find it hard to believe that it was intentional. Cause he is the kind of guy who would try to hit a batter and miss off the outside corner

No. Cabrera is a nobody bullpen reliever who has s***** control. The game wasn't out of reach at the time, and there was no reason to put another runner on base. It was unfortunate, but it was definitely not intentional.

I didn't like how Kinsler barked at Varitek while he was trying to calm him down. I know he was pissed, but aim your anger at the correct person.

This is the 2nd troll negative thread I've seen in here from a first time poster. FWIW.

I thought it was a legitimate question. Someone getting hit in the head isn't funny, ever. Sometimes there's a feud at work. You never know. He could have been way nastier about how he asked his question... in fact, the way he asked his question is textbook of how someone who dislikes what happened should ask about it. He could have vented and used insane amounts of profanity. He didn't.

Why am I a troll? I'm a Ranger fan who went to the game. It seems clear to me that the Red Sox were throwing at Kinsler. There was another pitch that was high and tight in the previous inning before he was beaned. Maybe it's retaliation because Veritek can't throw anyone out. I just wanted to know if there is some history of which I am not aware

Don't worry about what was said. I appreciate how you kept your distaste for the situation low. You'd be shocked at how many people come on here and talk like we are somehow responsible for what happened and that we should be ashamed of our team.

Anyway, I do not believe there is a past history. They were probably buzzing him to try to get him uncomfortable in the box. He's a tremendous player, so I don't blame that type of approach. That said, when you ask someone like Cabrera, who has extremely s***** control and most people didn't even know he was even on the team, to try to buzz his tower, something like that will happen. It was unfortunate, but I'm sure it wasn't intentional.

Veritek has a history of being confrontational after an opposiing batter has been hit by a Red Sox pitcher. I would bet there might have been something said from behind that face mask. I know I wouldn't want to hear it after being hit in the head.

I would like to know this history, because the only thing I can truly think of was the Varitek/A-Rod fight in 2004. And, well, I don't blame him one bit for that. Other than that, I can't really think of anything. I can see Varitek just trying to tell him it wasn't intentional and Kinsler being real hot and reacting sharply. That's probably what happened. Varitek wasn't angry until after Kinsler barked at him. Whatever, it doesn't matter.

No, he wasn't hit in the head intentionally. It made no sense whatsoever from the situation at hand, and Cabrera has poor control and was trying to back Kinsler off the plate but it got away from him. Unfortunate, but unintentional. No one sends a message by hitting someone else in the head unless he's a known headhunter.

Why was Veritek justified there? ARod was the one who was hit by a pitched ball. I can't cite the instances, but he always seems to have a chip on his shoulders. After Saturday night, I would bet everyone in the league will be running on him.

Because ARod was making a big deal out of a nothing situation. He got hit on the elbow PAD with an 87 mph pitch, and started mouthing off to Arroyo. Varitek jumped in to try to stop that, and got a bunch of "f*** YOUs" thrown in his face.

It seems like you have some sort of agenda against Varitek, given the totally irrelevant comment about his poor ability to throw runners out. I said I was irritated that Kinsler directed his anger at the wrong person, and because Tek is not known to have a chip on his shoulder. I have Tek's track record to back up my stance. Your lack of ability to cite certain instances helps prove you have no basis for your perception of him. I watch almost every game every season, and very rarely is Varitek even confrontational with an umpire.

All that said, Varitek sucks, but that's not the point of this conversation.

Kenny, you keep typing Veritek after reading the replies which correctly spell his name. Are you doing that to make a point? Because even a Texas Ranger fan ought to know the name of the Red Sox captain who is a twelve year veteran, three time all star and seven year post season player. I mean, the guy has had enough exposure so that you'd know his name...

Varitek has been getting run on all yr and he cannot stop it.

The team philosophy is to concentrate on the batter, not the baserunner. A lot of stolen bases on the Sox don't even draw a throw.

Posted
that's true. But also' date=' Varitek is a good .2 second off from where he needs to be[/quote']

You mean .2 off from where he would need to be if the Sox cared about opponents steals. But they don't.

Personally, I think it's killing them and it would be worth trying to fix it with Victor behind the plate.

I know its mostly on the pitchers. But his mechanics and his arm make it moot for a pitcher to even try and hold runners better. I bet the philosophy changes once they get a catcher who has an arm. Right now, Victor and Vtek are a baserunning frenzy

I'd really like to see Curt Suzuki play for the Sox. V-Mart at 1st' date=' Youk at 3rd.[/quote']

Youk is okay at third but he's a great first baseman. I'd like to see him back there full time. Vmart at C would be an improvement in my opinion.
